HUDSON BOYCOTTS HOLLIDAY TO PREPARE FOR DREAMGIRLS PERFORMANCE
JENNIFER HUDSON insists following in the Tony-award winning footsteps of JENNIFER HOLLIDAY was the most difficult obstacle she faced playing the part of EFFIE WHITE in DREAMGIRLS.
Holliday - the star of the original Dreamgirls - is famous for her rendition of the song AND I’M TELLING YOU I’M NOT GOING and Hudson had to force herself to stop listening to the recording because she wanted to create her own interpretation of the song.
She explains, "That was the challenging and the scary part for me knowing that she sang it and then I had to come behind that.
"It was unbelievable, her voice was like thunder, it’s so amazing. I had to realise that the character is Effie White and I needed to create my own Effie, just the same as she created her own."
