CARNAHAN: ‘DON’T COMPARE ME TO TARANTINO’

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 12:45 am

Director JOE CARNAHAN has slammed film critics who are obsessed with comparing new movies to the works of QUENTIN TARANTINO.
Carnahan thinks the impact of Tarantino’s 1994 film PULP FICTION has been overrated by movie buffs who idolise the controversial filmmaker.
And Carnahan is adamant his new movie SMOKIN’ ACES shouldn’t be compared to Tarantino just because it mixes violence with moments of comedy.
He tells Empire magazine, "It’s easy to get sucked into the Tarantino thing.
He’s become like an institution. We’ve reached the apex of the absurd with criticism: when I saw (MARTIN) SCORSESE’s THE DEPARTED somehow compared to a Tarantino film I wanted to laugh. Is there no frame of reference pre-Pulp Fiction? "Tarantino did not invent white sliced bread and the combustion engine. It’s become a quick label that you can slap on something - ‘post-Tarantino’."
