BESSON TRAINED AS MOVIE SET NIGHTWATCHMAN

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:21 pm

French moviemaker LUC BESSON taught himself how to be a great director by playing with the cameras set up on film sets he used to guard.
The celebrated auteur, whose first job in film was as an assistant on JAMES BOND film MOONRAKER, admits he would volunteer to sleep on location film sets to protect equipment, and then spend the night trying to figure out everything about cameras.
He explains, "When I was a third assistant on sets… and they never knew how to keep apartment locations safe, I was always the one who volunteered to stay in the apartment during the night.
"I’d open all the cameras and take the lenses out so I learned a lot about cameras that way. That’s how I started in film."

FARROW & HIGHMORE IN NEAR-DEATH DRIVING DRAMA

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:21 pm

MIA FARROW will always have a special bond with British child star FREDDIE HIGHMORE after the two faced death together while travelling through France.
Farrow, who plays the FINDING NEVERLAND star’s grandmother in new family film ARTHUR & THE INVISIBLES, was out visiting the beaches of Normandy during a break from filming when their driver fell asleep at the wheel.
The car Farrow and Highmore were passengers in spun out of control and ended up in a ditch after the young actor’s father, who was sitting next to the tired driver, wrestled with the steering wheel to save them all from death.
Farrow recalls, "I went out and about with Freddie and his dad and we almost got killed when our driver fell asleep at the wheel. We narrowly escaped death.
"We were all just jamming on the imaginary brakes. When we did come to a stop at the side of the road, the driver just fell asleep on the ground, so Freddie’s father took the wheel from that time forward. At least we’re still here to talk about it.
"Freddie is a great mime and he does an amazing rendition of our driver falling asleep. He is loads of fun and we had a near-death experience together."

PUREFOY REFUSES TO GET NAKED FOR ROME DIRECTORS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:21 pm

Movie star JAMES PUREFOY has upset directors of gritty TV drama ROME by refusing to bare all for scenes in the second series of the show.
The dashing VANITY FAIR star, who plays MARK ANTONY in the drama, stripped off for a bathing scene in the first series but insists he’ll only disrobe if it’s absolutely necessary - and not just to win ratings.
He says, "There were directors who were disappointed that I didn’t get buck-naked… I would just go, ‘Why? Tell me the reason. What does it add to the character now that we haven’t already got?’ "One of them said, ‘Oh, I just want to show he’s relaxed.’ "(I said) ‘We know he’s relaxed! How much more relaxed could I possibly be? No, you just want to see my c**k in rehearsal. I’ll show it to you now, shall I..? We don’t have to show it in front of millions of people.’" But Purefoy admits he had no problems with his full-frontal nude scene in the first season of Rome - because he felt disrobing was relevant.
He tells Out magazine, "It was really right for the character somebody who’s naked talking to somebody who’s clothed, is normally the weaker of the two…
not in that situation, it was very clear who had the status - the naked man.
And that says a lot about the man."

THORNE-SMITH MARRIES IN SECRET CEREMONY

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:18 pm

Former ALLY McBEAL and MELROSE PLACE star COURTNEY THORNE-SMITH has secretly married boyfriend ROGER FISHMAN at her home in Los Angeles.
The couple wed on New Year’s Day (01JAN07) in a tiny ceremony in the back yard of her home, according to her publicists.
Sources tell magazine In Touch the ceremony was so low-key neither Thorne-Smith nor her fiance told their families.
A source explains, "Not even the bride’s parents were invited. They applied for a confidential license so it wouldn’t leak out before they did it." This is the second marriage for Smith, 39, who suffered embarrassment in 2004 when her wedding pictures appeared in US publication Instyle as she announced her divorce from genetic scientist DR ANDREW CONRAD.
In 2003, she called off her wedding to cardiologist ROBERT ANDREWS just weeks before they were set to walk down the aisle.
The source adds, "She wanted to make sure she didn’t have egg on her face a third time. Courtney and Roger took an extended vacation together over the Christmas holidays. After they returned, they quietly made it all legal."

DIAMOND SEX TAPE COULD BE SHAM

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:15 pm

The man who brokered the deal to sell a sex tape featuring former SAVED BY THE BELL star DUSTIN DIAMOND insists the actor was involved in the whole process and that parts of the tape may be fake.
Diamond, who played SCREECH on the US TV series, has said he tried desperately to stop the release of the tape which shows him engaging in sex with two women.
DAVID HANS SCHMIDT, who handled the sale of the tape to Red Light District Video, tells the New York Daily News’ RUSH & MALLOY that Diamond "was in on this deal from the start".
He explains, "He made this tape in a St Louis (Missouri) hotel room with two girls last summer with the intention that I would sell it." Schmidt says he is not convinced that all of the shots in the video are of Diamond, adding, "You never see his face and his (manhood) in the same shot.
"If, in fact, he used a body double, I’m going to sue him for defrauding me, Red Light and the American public."

CROWE SLAMS FLIGHT ATTENDANT ABUSE CLAIMS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:15 pm

Oscar winner RUSSELL CROWE has hit back at allegations he threw a fit over the inflight food he was served on a private jet during a promotional tour for his latest film.
A flight attendant who served the actor on a chartered jet claims he was furious when his wife DANIELLE SPENCER was given the only serving of a satay chicken meal he had wanted while on a flight to promote the film A GOOD YEAR.
Crowe’s Los Angeles lawyers have issued a five-page denial slamming the allegations of the unnamed flight attendant who says Crowe became enraged when he woke up from a nap and realised his wife had nabbed his dinner request. In her claim the flight attendant explains, "He said to me, ‘If I tell you I want something, you put it aside for me. Or wake me up. Is there some kind of language barrier here?’" The actor’s attorney, JOHN H LAVELY, has rubbished the allegations and insists the movie studio public relations sources have confirmed Crowe was "nothing less than a model citizen during the publicity tour".
Crowe is renowned for his volatile temper - in 2005 he threw a phone at a hotel clerk in New York City after he was unable to place an international call to his wife back in Australia.

BESSON QUITS FILMMAKING TO HELP STRUGGLING FRENCH KIDS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:15 pm

Celebrated filmmaker LUC BESSON is quitting the movie business so he can concentrate on becoming a better Frenchman.
THE FIFTH ELEMENT director admits he’s "tired" and doesn’t want to disappoint his fans with poor efforts, so he’s turning his back on filmmaking to live a richer life.
He says, "I worked in this business for 30 years now and I’ve made 10 films and I’m tired. I can’t conceive to make a film if I don’t give everything to it… I’d rather stop a little too soon than a little too late.
"For me, life is bigger than cinema. There are plenty of things to do, like spending more time with the people you love. I want to be a better citizen and do more for my country and give back a little of what I got. I have a feeling I’ve got too much." Besson reveals one of the first things he’ll do is help struggling Parisians find work: "I see too much misery and too much problems in my country. I see all these kids in bad neighbourhoods in Paris and they have no job and they try.
"They study and they have a diploma but, because their name is Kareem or Abdul or they’re black, they can’t get a job at all. They have so much energy, they’re great.
"They don’t want people to take care of their life; they want to prove they deserve it. I see more energy and willingness and power in these kids than in some kid in a rich neighbourhood in Paris.
I know these kids. The only thing they need is just a little dignity and a little help."

HUDSON BOYCOTTS HOLLIDAY TO PREPARE FOR DREAMGIRLS PERFORMANCE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:12 pm

JENNIFER HUDSON insists following in the Tony-award winning footsteps of JENNIFER HOLLIDAY was the most difficult obstacle she faced playing the part of EFFIE WHITE in DREAMGIRLS.
Holliday - the star of the original Dreamgirls - is famous for her rendition of the song AND I’M TELLING YOU I’M NOT GOING and Hudson had to force herself to stop listening to the recording because she wanted to create her own interpretation of the song.
She explains, "That was the challenging and the scary part for me knowing that she sang it and then I had to come behind that.
"It was unbelievable, her voice was like thunder, it’s so amazing. I had to realise that the character is Effie White and I needed to create my own Effie, just the same as she created her own."

REM, PATTI SMITH & VAN HALEN SET FOR HALL OF FAME

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:09 pm

REM, PATTI SMITH and VAN HALEN have been named among the Class of 2007 as the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame names its latest inductees.
The RONETTES and rap pioneers GRANDMASTER FLASH & THE FURIOUS FIVE will also be added to the Cleveland, Ohio museum during a ceremony at New York’s Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in March (07).
Atlantic Records founder AHMET ERTEGUN, the late chairman of the Hall of Fame Foundation, will also be honoured at the star-studded induction ceremony.
It is not known if REM and Van Halen will perform at the induction ceremony with their original line-ups - REM drummer BILL BERRY quit the group in 1997, but reteamed with his former bandmates when they were inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame last year (06).
Meanwhile, Van Halen have a well-publicised awkward history of disputes between band leader EDDIE VAN HALEN and former frontman DAVID LEE ROTH.
Either way, Hall of Fame induction ceremony organisers are hoping the night will be a lot smoother than it was last year (06), when the members of the SEX PISTOLS refused to show up and the original BLONDIE line-up bickered onstage.
