Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:51 pm

American TV pioneer and former president of the CBS network FRANK STANTON has died. He was 98.
Stanton is creditted with propelling the small chain of radio stations into a communications empire during his time in charge of CBS and, in 1999, he received a lifetime achievement award from the New York branch of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for his services to the industry.
They include creating the first televised presidential debate, and allowing four days of commercial-free news coverage when former US President JOHN F KENNEDY was assassinated.
He also risked a jail sentence in 1971 when he refused to hand the House of Representatives out-takes from a controversial broadcast exposing the US military’s propaganda campaign to build public support for the Vietnam War.
He died on Christmas Eve (24DEC06).
