LI RISES TO LANGUAGE CHALLENGE
Chinese actress GONG LI is shunning home-grown movies to "challenge" herself with Hollywood blockbusters.
The MIAMI VICE star has shot a string of English-language films, but insists it’s much harder tackling non-Chinese characters than overcoming the language barrier.
She says, "I very rarely portray a real Chinese character, like a native Beijing resident, in Hollywood.
Referring to her character in Miami Vice, Gong says, "Even though she looks Asian, her character, her thoughts, her thinking aren’t Asian at all. That’s hard to master.
"Hollywood films are more challenging. I like the challenge." Gong is due to shoot another as yet undisclosed Hollywood movie next year (07).
