Nicole Richie was arrested for driving under the influence on Monday morning (11.12.06) it has been reported.
‘The Simple Life’ star was charged by police at 4.50am after drivers saw her driving her SUV the wrong way on the 134 Freeway in Burbank, California and alerted the police, according to website TMZ.
Police have allegedly revealed the 25-year-old adopted daughter of Lionel Richie confessed she had taken the painkiller Vicodin and smoked marijuana.
A preliminary alcohol test at the scene showed that Richie was not under the influence of alcohol.
Richie was alone when police approached the car.
She was charged and released after spending around four hours in jail.
Bail was reportedly set at $15,000.
Richie has just begun dating Joel Madden of Good Charlotte who recently split from actress Hilary Duff.
Madden lives in Glendale, which is close to where Richie was arrested.
