Veteran singer GEORGIA GIBBS has died following complications from leukaemia.
She was 87.
Gibbs passed away at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York on Saturday (09DEC06).
She scored a succession of hits in the 1950s, including KISS OF FIRE, but is best known for, at the time controversially, being one of the first white performers to have success through covering black artists.
Gibbs, who was married to the late author FRANK GERVASI, also starred on hit radio and TV show YOUR HIT PARADE.
