CROSBY HONOURED BY RENAMED THEATRE
A theatre which saw BING CROSBY perform in his youth is to be renamed after the legendary star.
The Metropolitan Arts Theater in Spokane, Washington will be renamed the Bing Crosby Theatre at a public ceremony this month (DEC06).
Crosby performed at the venue between May and October 1925 with his band the MUSICALADERS, playing tunes between movie showings.
BILL STIMSON, a local historian, says, "This is where Bing Crosby learned his trade and became Bing Crosby.
"Now we’re stepping up and doing what we should have done long ago." STEPHANIE PLOWMAN, a curator of Crosby memorabilia at the Spokane’s Gonzaga University, says, "It is time for the city to recognize the fact that he is still known worldwide.
"While alive he put Spokane on the map and still does."
