SIMPSON IN TEARS AFTER TRIBUTE
JESSICA SIMPSON burst into tears last night (03NOV06) after forgetting the words to a DOLLY PARTON song she was performing during the Kennedy Center Honors event.
Two years after sister ASHLEE’s lip-syncing debacle on TV show SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE hit the headlines, the DUKES OF HAZZARD star showed that live mishaps run in the family.
Performing a cover of Parton’s NINE TO FIVE hit with AMERICAN IDOL star CARRIE UNDERWOOD at Sunday’s bash in Washington DC, Simpson stumbled over the song lyrics.
She relied heavily on cue cards to sing the song and missed a few lines. She then abruptly ended her performance saying, "Dolly, you make me so nervous I can’t even sing the words right." Her efforts were met with little applause, prompting embarrassed Simpson to dash off stage, reportedly in tears.
She appeared to be crying when she and others involved in the tribute show returned to the stage.
As WENN went to press it was not known if the performance will be edited out of the TV broadcast, which will air later this month (26DEC06).
