The British editor of celebrity journal Hello! has denied the magazine scored free photos from the wedding of TOM CRUISE and KATIE HOLMES by agreeing to write positively about the Church of Scientology.
RONNIE WHELAN insists the rumour "is categorically not true" but doesn’t dispute her magazine obtained pictures of the star-studded Italian wedding last month (18NOV06) for nothing.
The Church of Scientology, of which Cruise is a devout member, is normally blasted in the British press, but Hello! carefully described the "simple yet eloquent 20-minute Scientology ceremony" enjoyed by the Hollywood couple.
The magazine also described how Cruise and his best man, Scientology leader DAVID MISCAVIGE, stood facing Holmes as she walked down the aisle "in accordance with (their) religious beliefs."

LATEST: SIR PAUL McCARTNEY’s estranged stepsister has warned of his "explosive" temperament, apparently backing up HEATHER MILLS’ alleged claims she was abused during their marriage.
The couple’s impending divorce battle turned nasty in October (06) when court papers maintaining he physically abused her were leaked to the media.
Now McCartney’s stepsister RUTH, who has been estranged from him for 20 years, claims the former BEATLE is subject to terrifying mood swings.
She spoke out after allegations a set of taped interviews she recorded in 1994 for Beatles writer GEOFFREY GIULIANO on her stepbrother may be sold to Mills’ divorce lawyers.
The 46-year-old says, "I don’t know the specifics of their marriage. All I would say is that Paul can be mercurial. He’s like the weather, if you wait long enough, it will change from sunny to stormy.
"He is a man with a huge ego who has been used to having his own way for decades. I can only speak from my first-hand experience of him and I know that he can explode in rage and then be a gentle soul the next moment. I wouldn’t say he was a split personality but he can be explosive.
"Paul is a legend. He’s been a Beatle, a Knight, a father, a widow and a husband but he is still human. Even gods have feet of clay." McCartney and Mills split up in May (06) after four years of marriage and began divorce proceedings in July (06).

Socialite PARIS HILTON has pulled out of an appearance at the Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas, Nevada on Monday (04DEC06) after objecting to jokes in her script which allegedly poke fun at her celebrity friends.
The hotel heiress was set to co-host the ceremony with new best pal BRITNEY SPEARS, but the TOXIC star backed out of her role on Thursday (30NOV06) - just hours after the announcement was made.
Hilton has now followed in Spears’ footsteps, after representatives claimed the show’s bosses could not reach an agreement with the 25-year-old over the content of the script, which Hilton found "objectionable".
Her spokesman ELLIOT MINTZ says, "It is my understanding that some satirical references ridiculed some of her peers.
"Paris did not want to say anything that could appear hurtful or embarrassing about people she knows."

British detectives have launched a new investigation into a man’s death at the home of British TV personality MICHAEL BARRYMORE.
STUART LUBBOCK was found dead in a swimming pool at Barrymore’s Essex, England home in March 2001, with traces of alcohol, ecstasy and cocaine in his bloodstream. Post mortem tests also showed he had suffered severe internal injuries which suggested sexual assault. After a lengthy investigation by local police no-one was charged in connection with his death, with a coroner recording an open verdict at the 2002 inquest.
Police say the decision to reinvestigate Lubbock’s death was sparked by a review of the initial inquiry.

British actress DAME HELEN MIRREN is telling her life story through photographs in a book to be published next year (07).
THE QUEEN star has been rejecting book deals for her autobiography for years, insisting she’s not interested in writing her memoirs.
However, Mirren is now planning to write text accompanying the photos herself.
She reveals, "It will be full of photos, not just of me but of the people who have shaped my life."

British soap star BEN FREEMAN has been charged with rape after allegedly attacking a 16-year-old girl in Barbados on Wednesday (29NOV06).
The 26-year-old actor, who plays mechanic SCOTT WINDSOR in popular UK soap EMMERDALE, has been freed on $10,150 (£5,125) bail after appearing in court on the Caribbean island yesterday (02DEC06).
He is due to reappear before magistrates in Bridgetown, the island’s capital, on Tuesday (04DEC06), and his passport has been confiscated.
The attack is alleged to have taken place at the luxury Almond Beach Village hotel in St Peter, where Freeman has been holidaying with his father and sister.

Bollywood stars AISHWARYA RAI and HRITHIK ROSHAN have been accused of obscenity by a lawyer upset at a kissing scene they share in DHOOM 2.
Indian attorney SHAILENDRA DWIVEDI believes the romance in the SANJAY GADHVI film - an action thriller about a police chase to catch a hi-tech international thief - is undignified and derogatory to women and sends out the wrong message to the country’s youth.
He says, "Bollywood actors are conveying vulgarity in the society.
"These films cannot be watched with our families, they are so vulgar at times." The case will be heard on 11 December (06) at a local court near the city of Bhopal.
Dhoom 2 was released with just a ‘parental discretion’ rating by the Indian censor board.

Former Chilean dictator AUGUSTO PINOCHET has been rushed to a Santiago hospital after suffering a heart attack.
The 91-year-old was admitted to the city’s Military Hospital early this morning (03DEC06) in a "grave but stable condition," according to medical officials, but one of his doctors, JUAN IGNACIO VERGARA, said Pinochet’s life was "in danger".
He has undergone an angioplasty - a procedure designed to widen a narrowed or totally obstructed blood vessel.
The retired general is currently under house arrest over the disappearance of two of the thousands of people who went missing under his 17-year regime from 1973.

PENELOPE CRUZ walked away with the Best Actress title at the European Film Awards in Warsaw, Poland, last night (02DEC06), winning over judges with her performance in Spanish film VOLVER.
The PEDRO ALMODOVAR-directed comedy drama took home five awards, including Best Director and Best Cinematography, but lost out to German movie THE LIVES OF OTHERS in the Best Film category.
The FLORIAN HENCKEL VON DONNERMARCK movie, about East Germany’s secret police, also beat British director KEN LOACH’s THE WIND THAT SHAKES THE BARLEY, THE ROAD TO GUANTANAMO by MICHAEL WINTERBOTTOM and MAT WHITECROSS, NEIL JORDAN’s BREAKFAST ON PLUTO, and GRBAVICA by Bosnia’s JASMILA ZBANIC to the coveted award.
Filmmaker ROMAN POLANSKI was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement prize.
Returning to his native country to accept the gong he insisted "only good things" happened to him in Warsaw.

Reformed Australian rockers the HOODOO GURUS are to tour America for the first time since 1994 next year (07).
The BITTERSWEET stars’ itinerary is still being worked out, but members DAVE FAULKNER, MARK KINGSMILL, BRAD SHEPHERD and RICK GROSSMAN are desperate to play at the annual South By Southwest festival in Austin, Texas in March (07).
The group, who built up a strong following on the US college circuit in the 1980s, reunited in 2001 after a four-year hiatus, and are currently recording an album for a 2007 US release.

Australian singer/actor JASON DONOVAN is relaunching his pop career after appearing on British reality TV show I’M A CELEBRITY… GET ME OUT OF HERE! LATEST: DAVID GEST has vowed to appeal against the court ruling which threw out his $10 million (£5.1 million) lawsuit accusing estranged wife LIZA MINNELLI of domestic abuse during their two-year marriage.
The record producer split from the CABARET star in 2003, and the pair have been embroiled in a bitter divorce battle since.
In a civil lawsuit Gest claimed his estranged wife beat him so badly during alcoholic rages he had to be hospitalised but the case was dismissed in September (06) when Minnelli’s medical expert made it clear Gest’s much publicised headaches were caused by a strain of herpes. He denies having the disease.
Gest says, "We have strong medical evidence which the judge overruled. I have five witnesses but the judge would not let a jury hear the evidence.
"So we are appealing and we are going to see her in court."
