Latina siren EVA MENDES is so determined to stick to her annual New Year’s resolution she has enlisted the help of hypnosis to conquer her nailbiting problem.
The actress reveals she has set herself the task of letting her fingernails grow for years, but her resolution never seems to last more than a few days.
The HITCH star says, "For the 10th year in a row I will make a resolution to not bite my nails. And for the 10th year in a row I’m sure I will break that by 5 January.
"I think that’s the longest I went without biting my nails. I’m meeting with a hypnotherapist in an effort to stop.
"I’m really happy about this because that’s one of my things that I do that I no longer want to do."

Screen legend ROBERT DE NIRO fears he is going cross-eyed, despite reassurances from his optician that his sight is in perfect working order.
The GOODFELLAS star is now considering wearing sunglasses all the time to cover up his eyes.
He says, "The optician says there’s nothing wrong. But I can see it when I look in the mirror sometimes.
"My friend bought me some sunglasses as a joke. He said I should put then on so that people don’t have to worry which eye to look at when I speak to them."

The much-anticipated fourth INDIANA JONES installment will be filmed next year (07), writer/producer GEORGE LUCAS confirms.
The filmmaker promises the sequel will be the most exciting chapter to date after finalising the script with director STEVEN SPIELBERG.
He says, "It’s going to be fantastic. It’s going to be the best one yet." He adds the film will be a "character piece" and see HARRISON FORD reprise his role as the titular hero.

US basketball legend MICHAEL JORDAN has divorced his wife-of-17-years JUANITA in a Chicago, Illinois court.
In court documents filed at the Lake County Circuit Court yesterday (29DEC06), the couple said, "Irreconcilable differences have caused an irretrievable breakdown of the marriage." They have lived separately since February (06).
Juanita Jordan previously filed for divorce in January 2002, but changed her mind a month later and withdrew her petition, revealing the couple was attempting a reconciliation.
However, yesterday’s statement reads more efforts "would be impractical and not in the best interests of the family".
Michael and Juanita have three children together - JEFFREY, 18, MARCUS, 16, and JASMINE, 14.
They married in 1989 after meeting at a Chicago restaurant.

Former Iraqi President SADDAM HUSSEIN has been executed by hanging for crimes against humanity.
The death sentence was carried out just before 6am local time at a secure facility in northern Baghdad and witnessed by a representative of the Iraqi prime minister and a Sunni Muslim cleric.
Video footage of Hussein being led to the gallows, where he refused to wear the customary hood, has since been shown on Iraqi state TV.
Hussein was sentenced to death by an Iraqi court on 5 November (05) after being tried for the 1982 killings of 148 Shias in the town of Dujail.
Iraqi National Security Adviser MOUWAFAK AL-RUBAIE, who witnessed the execution, described the moments before his death, saying, "We took him to the gallows and he was saying some few slogans. He was very, very, very, broken." Two co-defendants, Saddam Hussein’s half-brother and a former chief judge, are to be executed at a later date.
Hussein ruled Iraq from 1979 until he was toppled by invading US-led forces in 2003.

Thousands of fans are expected to gather at the James Brown Arena and on the streets outside to listen to the funeral over a public address system.

Yesterday (29DEC06) around 300 relatives and close friends attended a 90-minute ceremony at a church in North Augusta, South Carolina, and on Thursday (28DEC06) Brown’s body was carried in a gold coffin through the streets of Harlem on a horse-drawn carriage to New York’s Apollo Theater.
Brown died unexpectedly of heart failure on Christmas Day (25DEC06) in Atlanta, Georgia while hospitalised for pneumonia. He was 73.

Rocker ROD STEWART has been made a Commander Of The British Empire (CBE) by QUEEN ELIZABETH II in her New Year Honours list.

Pop star BEYONCE KNOWLES recorded her hit song IRREPLACEABLE to empower women who want to end their bad relationships.

AUSTIN POWERS star VERNE TROYER’s long-running battle with alcohol abuse has landed him back in a rehab facility.
The small star recently checked himself into a treatment centre near his Michigan hometown for 12 days after suffering a relapse.
His manager, ELENA FONDACARO, confirms to American publication National Enquirer, "Verne was in rehab and now he’s in outpatient therapy.
"Alcoholism is an illness that comes and goes - and Verne realised he was slipping. He decided to go back to rehab because he’s determined to maintain his sobriety." In October 2002 the 38-year-old nearly died of alcohol poisoning after being distraught following a break-up with GENEVIEVE GALLEN, a busty blonde who was his bride for two months.
Fondacaro adds, "He’ll be back in Los Angeles to resume work by mid-January (07). He’s determined to stay sober."
