The 71-year-old will accept the Donizetti Prize at the Bergamo Musical Festival on Wednesday as he battles to overcome pancreatic cancer.
Organiser RAFFAELLA VALSECCHI says, "His health has improved, aside from some problems walking. He uses a small cane." Pavarotti was preparing to leave New York City in July (06) to resume a farewell tour when doctors discovered a malignant pancreatic mass.
He is currently recovering and has cancelled his remaining 2006 concerts.
