British rockers THE FUTUREHEADS have been dropped from their record label after disappointing sales for their latest album, NEWS AND TRIBUTES.
However, the four-piece from Sunderland, north east England - who are due to embark on their UK tour later this week (25NOV06) - are "delighted’ at the news, and "couldn’t be happier." Frontman BARRY HYDE explains, "I’m over the moon about it to be honest with you, ‘cos I feel like we’re free now.
"We weren’t happy as a band on that label (679). It’s good to get out of the shackles of being tied down to something. I think it’s put us in a very strong position ‘cos we’re still a band that people like."

ECHO & THE BUNNYMEN singer IAN McCULLOCH is leading the hunt to find the best up-and-coming musicians in the UK.
The musician joins Island Records Managing Director MARC MAROT, BBC Radio 2 contributor PAUL SEXTON and award-winning producers BACON & QUARMBY in the search for new artists in the UK, offering undiscovered talent the chance to release their own material.
Entrants are asked to post their songs online with a brief biography, from which six finalists will be chosen by the judges panel led by the OCEAN RAIN star to perform at a private London gig with an exclusive audience.
The overall winner will record their track with Bacon & Quarmby, which will then be released as a download single.
McCulloch says, "I’m really excited about being involved in this. I know myself how difficult the music industry can be to break into, especially if you sound or look a bit different to everyone else.
"But we need to encourage diversity in music, and campaigns like this are exactly the sort of thing that could uncover the next big thing in the music world."

LATEST: The Malawian judge presiding over a legal challenge of MADONNA’s recent adoption of baby DAVID has postponed a ruling on the case, claiming he is too busy.
An alliance of 67 groups is challenging the interim adoption order granted to the singer and her husband GUY RITCHIE last month (OCT06). Madonna denies she used her wealth and influence to speed up the adoption process.
Last week (13NOV06) JUDGE ANDREW CHIPETA in Lilongwe said he would wait till today (20NOV06) to decide if the coalition have the legal right to challenge the adoption of the 14-month-old tot, whose biological father YOHANE BANDA is still alive.
However, today’s case has been postponed until next week (ends01DEC06).
JUSTIN DZONZI, lawyer for the groups, says, "The judge has not communicated to me or my colleague but we hear that he is very busy and he might rule next week." Chipeta delayed the case last week after Madonna’s local lawyer ALAN CHINULA said he needed more time to study the groups’ arguments.

Newlyweds TOM CRUISE and KATIE HOLMES have left residents and officials of Bracciano, Italy, unimpressed, after they refused to publicly thank the town for the chaos their wedding had caused.
The town government was forced to draft in extra police and rent public toilets to cope with the huge influx of visitors and media ahead of the actors’ wedding at the town’s Castello Odescalchi on Saturday (18NOV06).
Bracciano mayor PATRIZIA RICCIONI originally said she planned to give the couple honorary citizenship of the town, but has changed her mind after the pair avoided the media and locals.
Riccioni says, "Honorary citizenship? They do not deserve it.
"A whole town has sacrificed itself for them, volunteers worked all day, traffic was closed off.. They (Bracciano residents) put up with all the inconveniences very patiently. It would have been nice if the couple had showed themselves to the public even for a brief moment - maybe at a window or from a balcony.
"I have nothing against the couple to who I am very grateful for all the international publicity."

The SILENCE OF THE LAMBS star is currently displaying his work at the Primavera Gallery in Ojai Valley, where individual articles can sell for over $5,684 (£3,000).

British rockers PAUL WELLER and BRIAN MAY are backing a project to build giant guitars for charity.
GOING UNDERGROUND star Weller has launched the Gibson GuitarTown London exhibition to construct 30 huge fibreglass guitars.
The free-standing constructions will be designed by various musicians and will be displayed around London for 12 weeks beginning on 1 June next year (07), after which they will be auctioned off to raise funds for The Prince’s Trust, Nordoff-Robbins and the Teenage Cancer Trust.
Weller says, "I am proud to be associated with the Gibson GuitarTown London campaign as it combines my passion and appreciation for the guitar, whilst raising money and awareness for three very worthy and deserving charities."
