SOCCER LEGEND PUSKAS DIES

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 1:42 pm

Hungarian soccer legend FERENC PUSKAS died earlier today (17NOV06) after a long battle with pneumonia. He was 79.
Puskas had been in a Budapest hospital for six years suffering from Alzheimer’s disease, and spent two months in intensive care suffering from pneumonia before his death.
Puskas led his nation’s ‘Golden Team’ in the early 1950s which reached the World Cup Final in 1954, but narrowly missed out to West Germany after Puskas suffered an injury.
Puskas was abroad when the 1956 Hungarian revolution failed, and took up residence in Spain to play for Real Madrid where he scored 512 goals in 528 matches and won three European Cups, as well as a host of domestic honours.
In 1962, Puskas became a Spanish citizen and played for his adopted country in the World Cup Finals later that year.
Between 1945 and 1956, Puskas scored a staggering 83 goals in 84 matches for Hungary, the country to which he returned in 1993.
