LATEST: ANGELINA JOLIE has spoken out following the arrests of three of her bodyguards who fought with parents at a school in India, insisting the media was to blame for the fracas.
Indian police in Mumbai detained the minders after parents complained they had treated them and their children roughly during a dispute.
But Jolie, who was filming A MIGHTY HEART at the school when the fight broke out amid a sea of paparazzi, has reacted angrily to reports that one of her bodyguards used racial slurs as he battled parents.
MOHAMMED YUSUF PATNI, the general secretary of the Anjuman-eIslam school’s Parent Teacher Association, claimed one of the bodyguards referred to a parent as a "bloody Indian." But in a statement released today (17NOV06), Jolie fumes, "I would never work with anyone that was derogatory towards another man’s race. My family is of mixed race." The actress is also upset by media reports of the incident, which took place yesterday (16NOV06) as parents arrived to pick up their children from school and were met by a sea of paparazzi.
She adds, "It is not surprising that the press involved failed to mention their share of the responsibility in the chaos."

The Greenwich Village, New York home BRAD PITT and GWYNETH PALTROW used as a lovenest while they were dating has been sold by the actress’ mum BLYTHE DANNER.
Pitt and Paltrow used the two-bedroom apartment as a base when they were engaged in the 1990s.
Danner quietly sold the apartment, which faces Washington Square, for $1.8 million (£1 million), according to society magazine Gotham.

ROBIN WILLIAMS missed out on voicing a third penguin part in new family film HAPPY FEET because producers feared kids would recognise his voice.
The funnyman voices two of the leading parts in the film but was told his Scottish penguin was too similar to his Latino bird, RAMON.
He explains, "I was playing three and then they took one away just because you could recognise (it was me). I was playing one of the Scottish penguins, one of the more protestant penguins… and then they went, ‘No, bye bye.’"

The mother of 21-year-old Brazilian stunner ANA CAROLINA RESTON has made an emotional plea for parents to take better care of aspiring young models.
Reston died from complications due to anorexia on Tuesday (14NOV06), sparking further outrage about underweight models in the fashion world.
The latest tragedy comes after another model, LUISEL RAMOS, died of heart failure during a fashion show in Montevideo, Uruguay in August (06).
Reston died in a San Paulo hospital from a generalised infection caused by anorexia, in which sufferers deprive themselves of food in order to be ultra-slim.

A South African canoeist grabbed a shark’s tail after mistaking it for a big fish.
Richard Tebbutt was paddling along the Nahoon River when he saw a fisherman struggling to control a "very big fish".
Tebbutt tried to help by leaping out of his canoe and tackling the fish himself.
He said: "I grabbed the fish by its tail and got the shock of my life when I saw a big Zambezi shark charging towards me. The shark grabbed my left arm and lacerated it.
"I just smacked the shark as hard as I could with my right arm to make it let go." Tebbutt managed to free himself, but the five-foot shark tried to attack again.
"I immediately jumped out of the water onto the rocks and it missed me." The canoeist was taken to hospital where he received 50 stitches in his arm.

An obese British pantomime genie has been forced to quit because he keeps getting stuck in the trap door.
Alan Myatt, who weighs 23 stone, is supposed to appear on stage via a trap door at Gloucester’s New Olympus Theatre, but his 56-inch waist won’t fit through the opening.
He moaned: "I’m just too big to be the genie anymore. The time has come to hang up my lamp. I’m not as agile as I used to be." The door was widened two years ago to accommodate his expanding stomach, but theatre bosses are refusing to make it any bigger.
Myatt is now setting his sights on new roles.
He said: "People want me for all sorts of jobs from the laughing policeman and, of course, Santa Claus."

A Filipino man has been caught with three crocodiles in his hand luggage.
Enrique Yu Castillo, 50, managed to carry the half-metre long reptiles undetected as he travelled from Phnom Penh to Singapore, before he was finally caught as he arrived into Manila.
Airport authorities have been tracking Castillo for a week, after receiving a tip-off that he may try to sneak the crocodiles into the Filipino city.
When he was stopped by Manila airport officials he insisted he was carrying live fish - until his bags were searched.
The endangered crocodiles have been given to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

A Bosnian town is planning a memorial tribute to cabbage.
Mico Micic, mayor of Bijeljina, wants to honour the vegetable - which is a staple food for the Balkan country - by unveiling a huge monument in the town square.
Micic explained: "We have agreed to the plans to erect a monument to cabbage. It is the vegetable that feeds the people in this region and is important. It deserves recognition." The giant cabbage monument will be designed by local artists.
