The Dublin-born THE USUAL SUSPECTS star, 56, considers himself an American of Irish descent, and now resides in New York to be close to his ex-wife ELLEN BARKIN and their two children JACK DANIEL, 17, and ROMEY MARION, 14.
He says, "You cannot really return to where you came from. Anyone who is an immigrant or exile understands the conflict between where you come from and where you are now.
Byrne adds, "I went to Los Angeles, where time doesn’t exist and youth is venerated over age. And when I went back to Ireland, I found it extremely difficult to understand and I was no longer part of that world."

Best-selling author DAN BROWN is breathing a sigh of relief today (13NOV06) after the US Supreme Court threw out an appeal by another author claiming THE DA VINCI CODE was copied from his novel.
LEWIS PERDUE was seeking $150 million (£83 million) in damages, insisting his 2000 book DAUGHTER OF GOD forms the basis of Brown’s hit novel-turned-movie.
But justices in Washington refused to review a ruling by a US appeals court in New York that the two books are not substantially similar and that Brown’s suspense novel does not infringe on the other book’s copyright.

Grammy award-winning singer RUTH BROWN is fighting for her life in a hospital near Las Vegas, Nevada.
The BLUES ON BROADWAY star, 78, from Portsmouth, Virginia, has been in intensive care for several days and is currently on life support, having checked into a Henderson, Nevada, medical centre under another name.
She has suffered a string of health complications since a stroke in 2000.
While family members refuse to discuss the singer’s condition, they have not denied the report.

Film bosses are pleading with Cohen, 35, to stop posing as Borat on US streets to avoid further violent attacks.
Cohen’s new movie, ‘Borat: Cultural Learnings of America For Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan’, is tipped to become the highest grossing comedy of all time.
It was revealed last week that Cohen is being sued for "being a prankster".
Two anonymous US students, who appear in the ‘Borat’ movie, have filed a lawsuit against the comedian for allegedly getting them drunk before asking them to sign a legal agreement permitting footage of them to be used in the film.
They claim they have suffered humiliation and mental distress and are seeking financial damages in excess of $25,000.

The handsome actor and his jewellery designer fiancée Jennifer Meyer, 29, welcomed a baby girl into the world last Thursday (09.11.06) at Cedars Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles.
It is not yet known what the couple have decided to call their daughter.
