The Australian pop superstar held back tears as she thanked her fans for their support on the first night of her resumed ‘Showgirl Homecoming’ world tour - which she was forced to postpone after being diagnosed with cancer in May 2005 - in Sydney.
Kylie said: "Just to be here and have the opportunity to do it, I feel quite proud of that. I’m thrilled to be back I’ve been looking forward to this for such a long time.
"Generally, I’m like 10 minutes late but this is a year and a half so I’m fashionably late." Kylie put on a dazzling performance for her 10,000 loyal fans singing classic hits such as ‘Better The Devil You Know’, ‘The Locomotion’ and ‘Can’t Get You Out Of My Head’ and changed into an impressive eight different designer costumes during the show.
She opened the concert in a John Galliano jewel-encrusted bodice number complemented with a pink feather headdress. She also sported a leopard-print catsuit, a black PVC mini-dress and gold tunic dress with matching cape.
On the second night of her comeback tour (12.11.06) Kylie, 38, was joined on stage by U2 frontman Bono. The pair performed ‘Kids’ - Kylie’s 2000 hit duet with Robbie Williams.
The diminutive singer will play 20 concerts in her homeland Australia before coming to the UK in January.
