CAINE EXPLAINS ALFIE FLOP
SIR MICHAEL CAINE has blamed the flop of 2004 ALFIE remake on poor casting, insisting JUDE LAW was the wrong person to play his notorious womaniser.
Caine starred in the hit 1966 movie but Law’s role in follow-up only saw the film take $24 million (£13 million) at the US box office in two months.
Although the 73-year-old admires Law’s acting in it, he insists it would have been more successful if he paid closer attention to Caine’s original character.
Caine says, "I played Alfie as a dinosaur who didn’t know what was going on.
The last line of the film was ‘What’s it all about?’ He was mystified by it all.
"But when you saw Jude in the recent Alfie, you knew he knew exactly what everything was all about."
