The singer will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the ‘Thriller’ album by performing the classic graveyard scene with an army of ‘zombie’ dancers.
A source told Britain’s The Sun newspaper: "Jackson has definitely told organisers he will be performing. His dancers have already started rehearsals. He will close the show with ‘Thriller’. It will be a complete recreation of the video." The 48-year-old singer has not performed live in the UK since he sang ‘Earth Song’ at the 1996 BRIT Awards, where his performance was mocked by Pulp singer Jarvis Cocker.
Jackson is to be honoured with the Diamond Award which is given to artists who have sold more than 100 million albums.
His costumes for the show will be designed by fashion designer Roberto Cavalli.
‘Thriller’ is the biggest-selling album of all time and has sold 40 million copies since its 1981 release.
Jackson recently said he was interested in recording a sequel to the worldwide hit LP.
The 2006 World Music Awards will take place at London’s Earls Court next Wednesday (15.11.06) and will be hosted by actress Lindsay Lohan.
Beyoncé Knowles, Mary J. Blige, Katie Melua and Andrea Bocelli are all scheduled to perform.
