Cruise slammed Shields for using medication to treat her postpartum depression after the birth of her daughter ROWAN, but apologised to the actress in August (06) for his comments.
The two new mothers both gave birth on 18 April (06) at the same Los Angeles hospital - Shields gave birth to second daughter GRIER, while Holmes gave birth to daughter SURI.
Shields tells US entertainment show Access Hollywood that they are "absolutely" friends. The two actresses share a love of hit TV show GREY’S ANATOMY and even watched the series’ September (06) premiere together in Shields’ living room.
Shields adds, "You never know how life is going to bring people together."

Former STAR TREK: VOYAGER star JERI RYAN is "scoping out" venues in France’s Loire’s valley for an intimate June 2007 wedding to fiance CHRISTOPHER EME.
The German-born actress has fallen in love with the French countryside and has set her sights on staging her nuptials there next summer.
She tells America’s TV Guide magazine, "It (ceremony) isn’t as small as I thought it would be. We don’t want a big American thing.

MANDY PATINKIN, THOMAS GIBSON and SHEMAR MOORE were among the 15-strong cast and crew team from US TV drama CRIMINAL MINDS who raised $10,000 (£5,550) by completing a 75-mile charity bike race for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
The celebrity-studded team crossed the finish line in six hours and 50 minutes.
The event was a special occasion for Moore, whose mother MARILYN suffers from the crippling disease.

Shamed American author JAMES FREY has won praise from director TONY SCOTT for helping him bring HUNTER S THOMSON’s book HELL’S ANGELS to the big screen.
Frey, who confessed earlier this year (JAN06) to duping readers by embellishing his life story in harrowing biography A MILLION LITTLE PIECES, has saved Scott’s film project by reworking the screenplay and now the movie has been greenlighted after 12 years.
Scott explains, "I’ve owned the book now for 12 years. I’ve had three screenplays written. The last screenplay was written by James Frey and he’s the real thing, so, for the first time, he brought it to life."

THE MATRIX creators LARRY and ANDY WACHOWSKI have signed on to write and direct a big screen version of the classic 1960s animated TV series SPEED RACER.
The brothers will re-team with The Matrix producer JOEL SILVER for the movie that Silver has been trying to get made for over a decade.
The Japanese cartoon series Speed Racer, created by anime pioneer TATSUO TOSHIDA, focused on SPEED, his Mach 5 gadget-laden race car and the adventures he got into with his family.
He was often bailed out of danger by RACER X, a rival with a mysterious connection to Speed. Silver most recently collaborated with the Wachowskis on V FOR VENDETTA and approached them to take on the project.
He says, "I’ve struggled with this movie for a long time, but when Larry and Andy came across with their ideas and vision, it was so fresh and original that you wonder why nobody else thought of it." Production will begin next summer (07) in Europe and the film is scheduled for release in summer 2008.

LAW & ORDER star JESSE L MARTIN became the victim of a crime while he was shooting new movie BUFFALO BUSHIDO in Buffalo, New York.
The RENT actor’s luggage and a stash of autographed photographs were stolen when thieves broke into his car.

DIXIE CHICKS star NATALIE MAINES was so miserable in her first marriage to MICHAEL TARABAY she would sob in the shower and dream of his death.
The WIDE OPEN SPACES singer insists Tarabay wasn’t mean to her but she was just too young to be "stuck" in a relationship, and couldn’t imagine divorcing her husband.
Maines tells Playboy magazine, "I remember standing in the shower a lot, just crying that I was so young and stuck in my relationship forever.
"I would truly think, ‘How old will he be before he dies?’ which is horrible.
I was never going to kill him but that’s how stuck I felt.
"It never even crossed my mind that I could get out of it with a divorce. My parents were married forever.
"When I got so happy in our (Dixie Chicks) career, it made me wake up and realise I should be that happy in my personal life." Maines divorced Tarabay in 1999 and wed actor ADRIAN PASDAR the following year (00).

Rapper CHRIS ‘LUDACRIS’ BRIDGES has signed a deal to produce a weekly reality TV show about two teens attending a performing arts high school in Pennsylvania.
HALLS OF FAME will revolve around 21-year-old singing sensation STARLA and her 15-year-old sister and aspiring fashion designer TAYLOR.
The programme will follow the girls as they adjust to a new home in Philadelphia and the everyday trials of the competitive academy.
In addition to executive producing the show, Bridges will have a recurring role and serve as a music supervisor, creating the theme for the show and overseeing all other musical aspects. The MONEY MAKER rapper says Halls Of Fame promises to be "a realistic journey into how young people can get started in the entertainment business.
"Whether it’s music, fashion, dancing or acting - everyone has to start somewhere. Hopefully, this programme will show teens one way to go about it, as well as the realistic obstacles they’ll come up against." The series will air on the US on Nickelodeon teen network N.

Irish supergroup U2 arrived in Australia yesterday (31OCT06) to complete the postponed leg of their VERTIGO tour. BONO, THE EDGE, ADAM CLAYTON and LARRY MULLEN JR flew into Sydney from their Dublin base before heading to Australia’s Gold Coast via private jet to prepare for the tour. The band’s legion of Australian fans have been holding their tour tickets since March (06), when U2 suddenly postponed the concerts to allow The Edge to be with his family as a relative battled a serious illness.
The eight-month break from their world tour allowed Bono the opportunity to launch his new initiative RED, which raises funds for women and children suffering from HIV/AIDS in Africa.
The band also recorded a cover of punk anthem THE SAINTS ARE COMING with GREEN DAY to help those affected by Hurricane Katrina in the US.
Bono is currently in talks to appear as a special guest at the inaugural Make Poverty History concert in Melbourne, Australia on 17 November (06). The band’s tour kicks off in Brisbane on Monday night (06NOV06).

Colombian Vice President FRANCISCO SANTOS is dismayed at the success KATE MOSS has enjoyed following her cocaine scandal last year (05), because the narcotic continues to tear his country apart.
The British supermodel was publicly shamed when photographs of her snorting cocaine were published last September, and she lost a series of lucrative modelling contracts in the wake of her disgrace.

Troubled rocker PETE DOHERTY is being blamed for the axing of four BABYSHAMBLES concerts in Germany, after allegedly losing his passport.
Doherty lost his documents in England ahead of the tour and "contrary to his expectations didn’t get substitute documents to leave (the country)", according to the band’s management. The gigs, scheduled to run from Sunday (29OCT06) to tonight (01NOV06) in Mannheim, Cologne, Hamburg and Berlin have been postponed until the end of the month (NOV06).
Last week (ends27OCT06), British band SNOW PATROL also cancelled dates in Germany after bassist PAUL WILSON injured his left arm and shoulder.
