HAMMOND LOSES SHORT-TERM MEMORY
LATEST: British TV presenter RICHARD HAMMOND has lost his short-term memory after suffering a severe brain injury in a 300 miles (483 kilometres) per hour jet car crash last month (20SEP06), while filming for the BBC motoring show TOP GEAR.
The 36-year-old, nicknamed THE HAMSTER by co-hosts JEREMY CLARKSON and RICHARD MAY, was discharged from Leeds General Infirmary in Northern England (29SEP06) to a private clinic near Bristol, which is closer to his wife and children.
May says, "He’s not better, even with the best will in the world. He knows who people are, who his wife and kids are but he forgets that he talked to me in the morning.
"The last time I spoke to him we were actually having a good laugh about his memory. He said, ‘I’ve got a car magazine in the locker beside my bed. It’s great! I know I must have read it but every time I pick it up it’s really interesting."
