ACTOR BOND DIES

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 4:33 am

Stage and screen actor DEREK BOND, who was president of British actors’ union Equity during the 1980s, died on Sunday (15OCT06). He was 86.
London-born Bond, most famous for playing the title role in the celebrated 1947 Ealing Studios production NICHOLAS NICKLEBY, began acting in 1936 at the age of 16 - but his career was suddenly paused when he volunteered to join up with the Brigade of Guards at the outbreak of World War Two (39).
He was sent back to Britain after being shot in the leg in North Africa, and in 1943 he continued his acting career after a chance meeting with Ealing Studios scriptwriter DIANA MORGAN.
During the 1960s, Bond turned to TV presenting on programmes including TONIGHT and PICTURE PARADE - but he is most well known for his role within the Equity council.
Bond is survived by his third wife ANNIE, a son, a daughter and a step-son.
