HELENA BONHAM CARTER will re-team TIM BURTON and JOHNNY DEPP in the big screen adaptation of SWEENEY TODD.
Carter, Burton’s longtime off-screen partner, has starring in Burton-directed films such as CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY, BIG FISH and PLANET OF THE APES.
Carter and Depp starred in Charlie And The Chocolate Factory together and both voiced characters in Burton’s animated film THE CORPSE BRIDE.
She will play the devious MRS LOVETT in the new film, a role originated onstage by ANGELA LANSBURY, who is a murderess who dispenses of her victims’ bodies in meat pies and becomes the girlfriend and accomplice of the Demon Barber of Fleet Street, played by Depp.
In most stage productions of the musical, Mrs Lovett has been nearly a decade older than the Demon Barber and is usually someone in her fifties, but Carter and Depp are both in their early forties.
Media reports has British comedian SACHA BARON COHEN joining the cast as rival barber SIGNOR ADOLFO PIRELLI, but the studio would not confirm whether he’ll be part of the film.
Shooting begins early next year (07) for a late 2007 release.

CARRY ON films stalwart and the voice of the HARRY POTTER audio book series, JIM DALE, is to be saluted as part of a Friars Club Musical Tribute on Monday (30OCT06).
Among those toasting and poking fun at Dale will be Broadway favourites BEBE NEUWIRTH and TOVAH FELDSHUH.
The British actor has become a Broadway hero, claiming Tony Award nominations for roles in THE THREEPENNY OPERA and CANDIDE. He won the Tony in 1980 for his starring role in BARNUM.

BATMAN BEGINS star CHRISTIAN BALE has mixed emotions about his upcoming cowboy role in 3:10 TO YUMA - because he hasn’t had a lot of luck with horses.
The British-born movie star is looking forward to saddling up in the western remake, but insists he’ll be getting to know his horse first.
He explains, "I’ve actually been run over by a horse and had one tread on me.
I’ve been thrown off of them.
"I’m not really a horseman but I’m not really scared of horses either.
Despite everything, I like the beasts."

Hit BBC mystery-musical mini-series BLACKPOOL is being made into a pilot for US TV network CBS.
HUGH JACKMAN is set to appear as a guest in the renamed VIVA BLACKPOOL, which is being made for a reported $1 million (£555,000) and will serve as an executive producer on the project.
The mini-series revolves around sleazy small-time casino owner RIPLEY HOLDEN, who attempts to open a big time resort in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The show uses musical hits of the past and present to tell the story - which includes murder and mayhem, love and infidelity.
CBS landed the project after a fierce bidding war with rival US network ABC.

BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN director ANG LEE has been selected as an arts and culture consultant for the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games to be held in China. The 51-year-old Oscar winner will advise a creative team headed by fellow director ZHANG YIMOU that also includes STEVEN SPIELBERG.
Gay cowboy romance Brokeback Mountain was banned in China because homosexuality is still not widely accepted, although the film was popular on pirated DVD.
Lee became a huge star in China in 2001 when he was nominated for an Oscar for CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON. Although Lee was born in southern Taiwan, he is viewed on the mainland as a native son.

Movie star RYAN PHILLIPPE was moved to tears when he spotted the son of his FLAGS OF OUR FATHERS character sobbing off camera as he crawled through the mud during a pivotal battle scene.
The actor portrays Iwo Jima war hero JOHN ‘DOC’ BRADLEY in director CLINT EASTWOOD’s new World War II epic and befriended his character’s son JAMES while researching the role.
Phillippe spent hours perfecting his part as a real-life army medic and admits the effort paid off when he realised his film heroics had stirred emotions in James, who wrote the book upon which the film is based.
The CRASH star explains, "There was a scene that comes near the end of the film, where I’ve been wounded and I have shrapnel in my leg and it’s raining and this guy calls out for my character’s name on the battlefield.
"I crawl to find the guy and help him while I’m wounded.
"I was doing that scene and James Bradley was standing there watching me do something his father had done that was so brave and so heroic.
"I was face down in the mud in between takes waiting for Clint to roll and I looked over at James and he was crying. He gave me a simple thumbs up. That’s as much of a real emotional connection you can have on a film set.
"Things like that are really beautiful to experience."

Retired supermodel TYRA BANKS has called on acclaimed poet and writer DR MAYA ANGELOU to help her find a lover after admitting on the author’s radio show she’s struggling to add love to her busy life.
The former catwalk star, who now hosts her own US daytime talk show and reality hit AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL, told Angelou she needs romance in her life during a recent appearance on the beloved writer’s Oprah & Friends satellite radio programme.
And Banks, 32, felt sure Angelou would be the perfect person to help her find love.
She said, "I know you know somebody that’s a nice, upstanding young gentleman that you can hook me up with." Angelou advised Banks to slow her life down a little and pen a poem about her perfect man.

Actress TARA REID has turned to high-tech oxygen treatments to help heal the scars left by recent breast implants and liposuction.
The AMERICAN PIE star has been stepping into a hyperbaric chamber at Los Angeles’ Maria De Sio Skincare centre to get rid of scars around her navel and breasts.
She says, "I had to put powder on them (scars) so you couldn’t see how bad they were." During the $85 (£47) oxygen treatments, the gas is pumped into the chamber to help skin blemishes and scarring heal."

Former MELROSE PLACE star KELLY RUTHERFORD has given birth to a baby boy with businessman husband DANIEL GIERSCH. Rutherford, 37, who played prostitute MEGAN LEWIS MANCINI on the hit show, gave birth today (18OCT06) at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. HERMES GUSTAF DANIEL GIERSCH was weighed in at 8.5 pounds and is the first child for the couple, who married in August (06).
After being in labour throughout the night, Rutherford is now resting comfortably at home with her new baby. She tells American publication People, "We live so close to the hospital, we thought we could either hang here and eat hospital food or go home and order take-out from (Beverly Hills Italian restaurant) La Scala.
"We are all feeling good and I am so blissed out and tired." She says being a new mother is "just amazing" adding, "It’s incredible to see these little beings."

GREY’S ANATOMY star KATE WALSH insists everything is fine on the set of the hit TV show one week after co-stars PATRICK DEMPSEY and ISAIAH WASHINGTON got into a fight. The pair nearly came to blows on 10 October (06) during a spat over shooting issues on the series. Walsh, who plays DR ADDISON MONTGOMERY-SHEPHERD on the show, claims its back to business as usual on the set. She explains, "We’re all good. They had a squabble. I actually wasn’t there that day.
"I can tell you that we were shooting in Seattle (Washington) just a week ago. All I know is I was there for one scene and there was no one there. "And then the guys were there, both Isaiah and Patrick, doing their stuff, and there were literally throngs of women, like 300 women and everybody was going crazy. It’s all good." Walsh is grateful that she wasn’t involved in the scuffle adding jokingly, "I have big peasant hands. Who knows what I’m capable of."

Basketball star-turned-rapper RON ARTEST has explained himself after upsetting fans with boasts about smoking marijuana before big games and boozing at half-time on his new album MY WORLD.
The controversial sports star, who hit the headlines in 2004 after brawling with fans in the stands during an Indiana Pacers/Detroit Pistons game, insists the song, HATERZ, refers to his high school playing days.
He tells American magazine Sports Illustrated, "That was when I was younger… Definitely not in the NBA (National Basketball Association)."

Pop group the SCISSOR SISTERS staged the oddest interview with US men’s magazine Blender ever when they hired a psychic voodoo queen to seek out ghosts at their favourite New York haunt.
The quintet were told they could do anything for their first Blender article and decided to hire paranormal expert JACKIE BARRETT to play ghost buster at Greenwich Village club Mr Black.
The fun idea quickly turned serious, however, when ghosts of past drag queens and revellers who once frequented the club attempted to contact singers JAKE SHEARS and ANA MATRONIC.
Barrett discovered the ghost of a young girl who was beaten to death in the club, a former brothel, who left Shears gasping for breath, while the spectre of an elderly man haunting the club’s bathroom attempted to make contact with Matronic.
She told Barrett, "I’ve been in here many times and felt like someone is watching, and people have seen full apparitions in here." Matronic was later left in tears - all chronicled in a piece in the current issue of the publication - when a orphaned girl who died in the venue attempted to contact her from the grave.
Barrett explained, "She has picked you because of your long hair." The club the group chose to investigate for the article has a macabre history - Church of Satan founder ANTON LaVEY was a fan of the New York haunt and gave a previous owner a pentagram tapestry as a gift. The tapestry now covers a cocktail table in the venue’s VIP room.

EVANESCENCE star AMY LEE created the hit songs on the group’s new album THE OPEN DOOR during a reclusive 10 months, where she locked herself away in her Los Angeles home and only came out to see her therapist.
The singer agreed to confront her demons, which included abusive past romances, in therapy sessions after her mother advised her to seek a little help.
And she found the psychological sit downs both comforting and inspiring.
Lee explains, "For the first, I don’t know, lots of sessions, I’d just go in and cry.
"I guess I was letting out all the ghosts of my past." This dark period in Lee’s life allowed her to pen musical masterpieces and even try her hand at a little art - she tells Blender magazine that a painting of a heart spewing blood she created now hangs in her New York apartment.
It’s also given such her faith in therapy, her new boyfriend is a therapist called JOSH.
She giggles, "He’s a good listener, he makes me do breathing exercises when I freak out."

Pop star JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE turned fashion designer last night (17OCT06) at the runway debut of his William Rast clothing line at Los Angeles Fashion Week.
The SEXYBACK star decided to show his collection at one of Hollywood’s hottest nightspots instead of the official fashion week site at Smashbox Studios in Culver City. A catwalk and scores of bleacher seats were added to a section of nightclub Social Hollywood for the show. Another part of the massive club was reserved for the exclusive after-party where the 25-year-old Grammy Award winner performed for the crowd.
The star-studded guest list included WILMER VALDERRAMA, EVE and Timberlake’s girlfriend CAMERON DIAZ, who gave interviews and posed for pictures before taking a seat in the front row.
Other VIP attendees included PARIS and NICKY HILTON, MAROON 5 frontman ADAM LEVINE and GREY’S ANATOMY star PATRICK DEMPSEY.
Timberlake developed the "Street Sexy" collection with his childhood friend TRACE AYALA last year (05).
The star reportedly spent months picking the fashion show’s playlist, which included DAVID BOWIE’s REBEL REBEL, NINE INCH NAILS, NERD, PRINCE and JAY-Z.
The William Rast clothing line is named after Timberlake and Ayala’s grandfathers, who were major influences on their lives.

Grammy Award winner ALICIA KEYS has slammed reports she was recently arrested after an alleged domestic dispute.
Internet reports claimed cops took the R&B star into custody after a fight and posted photo of what looks like Keys being arrested by a police officer.
Keys’ spokeswoman dismisses the reports, telling MSNBC’s The Scoop that the picture is from a concert a couple of years ago and that the man leading Keys along is actually her security guard.
