Two organisations in Malawi are outraged by the government’s decision to approve an interim adoption order for 13-month-old tot DAVID BANDA, whose father YOHAME is still alive.
Madonna and husband GUY RITCHIE flew out of Malawi without their new son yesterday (13OCT06) after spending 10 days in the country, because David is awaiting a passport.
Children’s group Eye Of The Child’s BONIFACE MANDERE says, "It’s not like selling property.
"This process is too short, applying on Tuesday, and yesterday the court gave the OK. I don’t think that the High Court has any information about how Madonna is when it comes to child-rearing.
"We are concerned that the High Court has taken a short cut and waived the law. We are registering our concern and will seek clarification from the court, after which we will decide what action to take." Mandere claims Malawian adoption law demands international adopters live in the country for a year and are regularly assessed by social workers before they can remove the child out of the country.
Human rights group Civil Liberties Committee are joining forces with Eye Of The Child to seek a court injunction to block the adoption.

Superstar couple JAY-Z and BEYONCE KNOWLES were forced to charter an extra plane to cope with their excess baggage on a trip to South Africa this week (ends14OCT06).
The hip-hop star/producer and R&B beauty arrived at the check-in desk in New York City laden with luggage, but were told by airline staff there was not enough room on the Johannesburg-bound flight.
The couple then had to charter another plane to cope with their "almighty collection of suitcases".
An airport insider says, "The trip only lasts two weeks but it looked like they were emigrating.
"The airline were accommodating with their allowance but the check-in desk said that regardless of how much they could afford, there simply wasn’t enough room. "Luckily, Jay-Z and Beyonce aren’t poor and paid up enough to charter a seperate plane."

Bollywood superstar AMITABH BACHCHAN’s latest land purchase in Barabanki, India, has prompted a petition from locals.
Residents from the Barabanki district filed a public lawsuit in the llahabad High Court on Tuesday (10OCT06) claiming the BLACK star had concealed his identity when buying 20,000 square metres (215,278 square feet) of government land.
Petitioner SATYA NARAIN SHUKLA has urged the court to examine the "wilful concealment and misrepresentation of facts" by the actor.
Shukla says, "In an obvious bid to avoid identification, Bachchan has mentioned his name as just Amitabh and has dropped Bachchan even from his father’s name." JUDGE JAGDISH BHALLA has scheduled a hearing for 16 October (06).

WINONA RYDER’s "psychopathic tendencies" helped the actress land a starring role in director DANIEL WATERS’ forthcoming movie.
Waters, who worked with the actress on the film HEATHERS, says Ryder was the perfect choice to play a psychopathic character in his new film, SEX AND DEATH 101.

LATEST: US film critic ROGER EBERT is hoping to be fully recovered from cancer surgery in time for the Academy Awards next February (07).
In a letter published on Thursday (12OCT06) in the Chicago Sun-Times newspaper, where he has been a film critic since 1967, Ebert says he’s looking forward to returning to work early next year (07).
He plans to do occasional reviews until he makes a full recovery after reviewing THE QUEEN yesterday (13OCT06).
The 64-year-old wrote, "One thing I’ve discovered is that I love my job more than I thought I did, and I love my wife even more." Ebert had surgery on 16 June (06) to remove a cancerous growth on his salivary gland, and he also had emergency surgery on 1 July (06) to repair a burst blood vessel.
He is now recovering at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago in Illinois.

AMERICAN IDOL judge SIMON COWELL has discovered another classical act, after the success of IL DIVO.
Music mogul Cowell admits he would rather listen to choral music than pop and believes the sound of church choirs is an untapped musical market.
Cowell’s latest group ANGELIS features six young choristers, whose debut album is set to be released later this year (06).
He says, "Pop was my lifeblood - but I haven’t looked at the Top 40 for months.
"I discovered the power of these wonderful choral voices.

Comedian CHEVY CHASE has spoken out against the Iraq war - and praised comments by Britain’s most senior soldier about withdrawing from the country "amazing".
The US funnyman praised Army General SIR RICHARD DANNATT’s recent comments after he claimed British troops should withdraw from Iraq "soon".
He says, "I understand that your top military man has asked for a pull-out. I find that to be an unusual and quite an amazing story.
"The idea of going into Iraq, going into a sovereign country, the ethics of (GEORGE W) BUSH doing that is outrageous. I hope it comes to an end but I think we have already gone over the top.

Oscar winner MIRA SORVINO is smarting after being forced to move out of her New York City apartment.
The MIGHTY APHRODITE beauty, 39, spends most of her time on America’s West Coast with her husband CHRISTOPHER BACKUS and their two children MATTEA ANGEL, 23 months, and JOHNNY, five months.
The owners of the Manhattan block, where Sorvino has own a one-bedroom apartment for 13 years, are selling the building to developers.
Sorvino moans to New York magazine, "My landlords are selling the building, and they want the units cleared so they can turn it into a luxury rental." The actress’ argument to keep the apartment was refused by landlords, because she doesn’t spend enough time living in it.
She says, "You’re not in New York for six months, and they’re like, ‘You’re outta here!’ I’m a little bitter! Can you tell?"

British newspaper The Independent has issued an apology to musical giant SIR ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER, after it claimed his reality TV show HOW DO YOU SOLVE A PROBLEM LIKE MARIA? was fixed (23SEP06).
The paper claimed the outcome of the talent contest to find Maria for the West End production of THE SOUND OF MUSIC had been decided by Lloyd Webber long before the show began, and that the impresario had shown favouritism towards eventual winner CONNIE FISHER.
The paper said, "We would like to make it clear that our article "How do you solve a problem like Maria? Not with a TV show" did not mean to imply that Andrew Lloyd Webber made any attempt to fix the outcome of the BBC show of the same name. We have always accepted the outcome of the show was by public vote.
"We also accept that it was wrong to suggest Andrew Lloyd Webber showed favouritism towards the winner; that a ‘plant’ was hired and that the winner was recording a CD before the result.

LATEST: MADONNA and husband GUY RITCHIE have confirmed they are planning to adopt a 13-month-old boy named DAVID from Malawi.
The couple left the African country on Friday (13OCT06) without the child and are waiting for the legal arrangements surrounding the adoption to be finalised.
The singer’s spokeswoman LIZ ROSENBERG confirmed the couple’s plans to expand their family to US TV show ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT.
She says, "Madonna and her husband Guy Ritchie have been granted custody of their son, David.
"Final legal arrangements are being made to bring him home to his new family." Last week (04OCT06), the singer arrived in the southern African country, where she has been involved in humanitarian work.
The HUNG UP star is building an orphanage and child care centre and is involved in other initiatives geared toward helping children orphaned by AIDS.
David will be Madonna’s third child. She and Ritchie have a five-year-old son ROCCO and Madonna has a daughter LOURDES, who turns 10 today (14OCT06), from a prior relationship.

LATEST: MEL GIBSON’s insists he is not anti-Semitic and that the discriminatory statements he made when he was arrested were sparked by the ongoing war between Israel and Lebanon.
The Oscar-winner was arrested on 28 July (06) for drink driving and claims the anti-Semitic statements he made at the time were because of the war, which had begun 17 days earlier.

The ALFIE star reportedly ignored doorman DAN KOVACS’ request for ID at the entrance and ordered a drink before she was asked to leave.
According to Folino’s Young’s Tavern owner PENNY FOLINO, a fuming Miller stated, "I am Sienna Miller. I am a famous actress!" Doorman Kovacs then retorted, "I’m Dan Kovacs and I’m for real!"
