All bets are off
Visitors to Israel’s first official horse racing stadium are banned from placing bets.
Most forms of gambling are illegal in the Jewish country - only government-sponsored betting is allowed.
However this hasn’t stopped Israel opening the track which can seat several thousand people.
Anat Mor, a spokeswoman for the Gilboa Municipality - who built the stadium - said: "Without betting, the economic profitability is very low, it will be a problem to run the track over time." The Israeli government began proceedings to legalise horserace betting in 2004. The finance ministry has yet to approve the proposal.
For now, spectators will have to settle for simply watching the races.
