The ‘Passion of the Christ’ director - who insulted a Jewish policeman when he was arrested for drink driving in July - has opened his heart about the infamous incident for the first time in a US TV interview.
Mel said: "It was just the stupid ramblings of a drunkard, you know? "What I need to do to is heal myself and to be assuring and allay the fears of others. I also need to heal people if they suffered any heart wounds from something I may have said. The last thing I want to be is that kind of monster." The pre-recorded interview with Diane Sawyer will air on Good Morning America on Thursday (12.10.06) Mel was recently invited to meet with three prominent American Jewish groups, after publicly apologising for his anti-Semitic rant.
As he was being arrested on the Pacific Coast Highway, in Malibu, Mel said: "Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world." The 1939 Club, New York’s Museum of Jewish Heritage and a Beverly Hills rabbi have all asked the Hollywood star to meet with them.
