O’NEAL VOWS TO SUPPORT FAWCETT
Veteran actor RYAN O’NEAL has vowed to stand by his on/off girlfriend FARRAH FAWCETT after her recent diagnosis of cancer of the intestine, declaring he will "be there for her every step of the way".
The LOVE STORY actor, 65, was nursed back to health by the CHARLIE’S ANGELS star after his battle with Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia in 2000 and has promised to return the favour.
Fawcett confirmed tabloid reports she had been diagnosed with cancer last week (06OCT06).
O’Neal says, "We’ve had our ups and downs, but I was the first person she called when she was diagnosed. I love her, I’ve loved her for 25 years, and she knows that.
"Farrah is a fighter. The first thing she said to me was, ‘I’ve got cancer.’ The second thing she said was, ‘I’m going to beat this.’ "I intend to care for her and give her all the support she needs. It was so unexpected. I know these things happen, but not to Farrah. She’s been having regular checkups, but this just came out of nowhere. She had been complaining of feeling tired all the time, but the cancer diagnosis was a complete shock to both of us." O’Neal insisted Fawcett, 59, move into his Malibu, California home following her diagnosis so he can care for her 24 hours a day.
He adds, "She’s here at my house now and that’s where she will stay. She’s very positive that the treatment will work. But we both know she’s got tough times ahead." The couple have a son REDMOND together.
