SUMMERS: ‘THE POLICE BECAME A DICTATORSHIP’
Guitarist ANDY SUMMERS insists his former band THE POLICE had to split in 1986, because the group was becoming a dictatorship under lead singer STING.
The EVERY BREATH YOU TAKE hitmaker is not bitter about the break-up, insisting he always knew Sting was destined to become a solo artists because he "needs to control the crew or abandon ship".
Summers writes in his autobiography ONE TRAIN LATER, "After a few years and unparalleled success together, the fragile democracy has become a dictatorship.
"Sting’s agenda - his natural proclivity to do it alone - began to manifest itself with a kind of grumpiness around the band."
