Chess-debate

Posted in: Bizzare Stories — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 7:05 pm

An argument about toilet breaks brought the world chess championships to a two-day halt.
The match between Vladimir Kramnik of Russia and Veselin Topalov of Bulgaria was in jeopardy on September 29, after Kramnik boycotted the game when an appeals committee ruled against him using a private toilet cubicle and said each player should use a single common bathroom.
The investigation was promoted when Topalov’s manager accused Kramnik of taking too many toilet breaks, insinuating that he was using a computer to help him with chess moves - during the event which is being held in Kalmykia, Russia.
After further meetings the committee voluntarily handed in their resignation and Kramnik’s personal bathroom was re-opened.
The pair eventually resumed their game on October 3.

Posted in: Bizzare Stories — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 7:05 pm

A group of US dog owners are suing a company for failing to turn their pets into stars.
Hollywood Paws offers pooches media training to help them get television and film auditions.
However, after forking out thousands of dollars the owners of Goliath the Rottweiler, Rusty the pitbull, Milo the basenji and Poopsie the Lhasa say they have failed to see results.
Goliath’s owner, Rachel Armstrong, believer her pet had star quality and could make a successful career appearing in music videos.
She paid $2,000 to the company, but the closest she got to stardom was a rejection from ‘The Tyra Banks Show’.
Attorney Cynthia Mulvihill filed the law suit for the animal lovers last month.
Hollywood Paws owner Larry Lionetti insists he never promised to get acting jobs for every dog.

US robbers used kinky handcuffs to restrain shop assistants during an armed raid on a sex shop.
The three masked gunmen held up Starship Enterprises Adult Video in Atlanta, Georgia, and demanded the money from the cash register.
The men escaped on foot with $230 after restraining two employees with black fur handcuffs and silver leg irons, sold in the sex accessory store.
Luckily, nobody was hurt during the robbery and the whole incident was captured on the shop’s camera.
The robbers also stole several portable scales, valued at $700.

A US pensioner, who had been trapped in a hole for four hours, was luckily rescued by a passing postwoman.
Albert Hughes, 70, from Spokane, in Washington State, fell into a shaft outside his house when he was trying to adjust the water flow to his sprinklers.
When postwoman Janelle Maury came to deliver Hughes’ letters she saw his boots sticking out of the hole.
She said: "His feet were at ground level but that was all I could see. When I was closer I could see he was down there." Maury called the fire brigade who were forced to attach a rope to the elderly man’s feet in order to winch him out of the hole.

A musical condom to signal a man’s climax is to go on sale in Ukraine.
Creator, Grigoriy Chausovsky, from Zaporozhye, fitted the rubber contraception with a special sensor that registers the speed of love-making.
The sensor then transmits a signal to a miniature speaker at the base of the condom which will play the music louder and faster as the pace picks up.
Chausovsky said: "As the sex become more passionate, it registers the increased speed of the movements and plays the melody faster and louder."

A British man was shocked to receive a parking ticket after a workman painted yellow lines under his car.
Nasser Khan parked his car in a space without the markings - which signal a no-parking area - on a road in Salford, Manchester.
When he returned, Khan discovered two yellow lines had been painted beneath his vehicle and he had been issued with a ticket.
Khan said: "I thought I was lucky to get the space but I didn’t think I would get a ticket because it was a legitimate parking area.
"I couldn’t believe they painted the line underneath my vehicle." A nearby officer worker filmed the whole incident on camera and left a note for Khan on the windshield of the car explaining what had happened.

Posted in: Bizzare Stories — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 7:05 pm

A pile of rubbish has been entered into a prestigious British art competition.
Rebecca Warren, from Hackney, East London, filled five display cases with items she found on the floor, including dust, hair, plastic and twigs.
She is now one of four artists who have been short-listed for the £25,000 Turner Prize and her work is currently on display at London’s Tate Britain art gallery.
Warren told Britain’s The Mirror newspaper: "I’m actually interested in what a bit of fluff and a bit of twig put in a particular order can mean.
"For somebody it could mean one thing, and for somebody else, it could mean something else."

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 7:03 pm

MATT DILLON is encouraged by the steps America is taking to tackle racism, but admits it’s still a huge problem in US society.
Dillon, who played a prejudiced police officer in race relations drama CRASH, highlights the huge ethnic diversity of his homeland as proof the situation is improving.
He says, "It sounds strange but there’s something very healthy, something very cathartic about the way America deals with racism because we have such large groups of people from different ethnic backgrounds.
"(But) racism in America is obviously a problem. It’s something that we have dealt with for decades."

  • HAMMOND’S CRASH TO BE SHOWN ON TV?

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 7:00 pm

LATEST: BBC bosses are to set screen the high speed crash which nearly killed British TV presenter RICHARD HAMMOND last month (20SEP06) - if he agrees.
Plans to air a special TOP GEAR programme featuring the 300 miles (483 kilometres) per hour crash come shortly after the BBC decided not to scrap the popular British motor show. The broadcaster came under intense pressure following the accident for failing to carry out full safety procedures.
Hammond has yet to agree to the documentary. However, if the 36-year-old gives the green light he’s expected to provide a commentary on what went so wrong with the stunt.
The BBC will stop short of showing the aftermath of the incident, fearing it could be too distressing to air.
A TV source says, "The aim is not to be gruesome, but to show all the preparations." The new series of Top Gear resumed filming yesterday (05OCT06) with co-presenter JEREMY CLARKSON, but the schedule has been delayed until Hammond is well enough to take part.

A Bulgarian woman’s breast implants have saved her life.
Elena Marinova, 24, from Sofia, was involved in a full frontal car crash with another car in the northern city of Ruse.
Both cars were written off, but Marinova escaped serious injury because her 40DD breast implants acted as airbags.
A police expert explained that the silicone enhancements had "absorbed the impact of the crash".
He added: "They worked just like airbags - protecting the victim’s ribs and vital organs from damage.
"However they are not as safe as the real thing because they exploded, which airbags are not supposed to do."

A UK man asked an airline to help track down a fellow passenger he fell in love with.
Michael Young met Juliet Lever on a Flybe flight from Belfast to Newcastle.
The pair hit it off instantly, but Michael was too shy to ask Juliet for her phone number.
Michael, from Northern Ireland, couldn’t stop thinking about Juliet and eventually contacted the airline and begged bosses to ask her to get in touch.
Flybe customer relations boss Ella Jones said: "Michael’s tale pulled heart strings so we played cupid." Juliet phoned Michael and they arranged to go on a date.
Following a whirlwind romance, the couple are getting married next month.

  • Caution! Pears

Posted in: Bizzare Stories — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 6:59 pm

A UK council has put up signs warning people about falling pears.
Council officials in Worcester have cordoned off two pear trees in Cripplegate Park, St Johns, to stop their fruit falling on unsuspecting passers-by.
Signs have been screwed to the trees saying: "Warning, pears falling!" The 30ft trees, which produce large black pears weighing around 1lb, have been in the park for 50 years without any previous complaints.
The council’s parks and cemeteries manager Ian Yates said: "This is a lot cheaper than having a no-win, no-fee solicitor taking us to court.
"There are some sizeable pears and not everyone is going to be passing thinking a pear might fall on them, especially children."

A UK landlady has an unusual regular - a horse.
Jackie Grey, who recently became landlady at the Alexandra Hotel in Jarrow, Tyneside, was surprised to see carthouse Peggy join her owner Peter Dolan for a pint.
Jackie said: "When I bought the pub a few weeks ago I heard rumours that one of the regulars was a horse but I didn’t quite believe them. I was shocked at first because I have never run a pub before." Peggy’s usual order is a pint of John Smiths and pickled onion crisps.
Owner Peter said: "Peggy’s no bother at all. Most of the regulars know her as she’s been coming in here for years and for them. She’s a proper lady."

  • Vodka on tap

Posted in: Bizzare Stories — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 6:59 pm

Russian customs officers have found a mile-long pipeline pumping vodka to Latvia.
Police in Bulholovo, said criminals had laid the tunnel six feet underground and sold the vodka to the neighbouring country.
The pipeline was discovered when council workers were digging holes to plant trees.
Police officer Yakov Kabanov said: "We had our suspicions that there was someone running hooch across the border but we could never figure out how they managed it. They probably would have got away with it for decades if the trees hadn’t been planted."
