A woman has been sentenced to 30 months for stealing prized heirlooms and original FRANK SINATRA recordings from the estate of late Hollywood star AVA GARDNER. Prosecutors say RENEE SYKES took more than $1 million (£555,000) worth of property between 2001 and 2005, when she worked as a nurse caring for Gardner’s older sister, MYRA PEARCE.
Gardner’s closest living relative inherited the estate after the actress died in 1990. Her property included souvenirs from Ava’s marriages to actor MICKEY ROONEY bandleader ARTIE SHAW and Sinatra.

JUDE LAW has blasted Hollywood for trying to mould him into the British TOM CRUISE - insisting he hates being portrayed as a celebrity "product".
The ALFIE star shot to international fame in the 1999 hit movie THE TALENTED MR RIPLEY. But Law maintains that all he ever wanted to be was be respected as an actor.
Law says, "There’s a period when it’s all starting and you feel absolutely in control. Then suddenly the way people see you becomes like they’re seeing a product, a separate entity and you name is a brand. That’s when you lose control.
"I’m not Tom Cruise. Very few British actors are. If you look at the body of work I’ve done it’s pretty obvious I’m not going to make a MISSION IMPOSSIBLE."

Punk legends THE CLASH have teamed up with a top training shoe firm to launch their very own limited edition skate-boarding footwear.
Surviving members guitarist MICK JONES, drummer TOPPER HEADON and bassist PAUL SIMONON stunned skate shoe company Globe when they expressed their desire to produce the trainers - which will be known as the .45 Clash shoe.
A spokesperson for the company says, "When the word came that The Clash wanted us to produce a co-branded shoe with them, we s**t ourselves!" Just 250 pairs are to be released, retailing at £36 ($69.99).

British reality TV show BIG BROTHER broke the rules when it allowed evicted contestants to be reentered into the show’s house through public phone votes, according to the Independent Committee for the Supervision of Standards of the Telephone Information Services (ICSTIS).
More than 2,600 viewers lodged official complaints after British broadcaster Channel broke convention and returned some housemates to the show in a bid to boost flagging ratings.
Channel 4 has not been fined for its indiscretion, but has been ordered to pay £80,000 ($144,000) in administrative costs.
An ICSTIS spokesperson conceded Big Brother is an "editorially inventive show", but adds, "The unprecedented number of complaints for this type of service, combined with the undoubted strength of feeling of the complainants, clearly indicated that voters genuinely felt that they had been misled over this twist."

British TV show TOP GEAR has resumed filming just two weeks after presenter RICHARD HAMMOND was hospitalised with head injuries after crashing as he drove a jet car at 300 miles (483 kilometres) per hour last month (20SEP06).
Fellow presenters JEREMY CLARKSON and JAMES MAY put the show on hold as fears grew for Hammond’s life - but he is now expected to make a miraculous full recovery.
Following Hammond’s accident there were calls to axe the show for good, but the BBC insists it will continue with the cutting edge car programme, which sees its presenters undertake numerous outlandish challenges involved motors.
A BBC spokesperson says, "We remain committed to Top Gear and there was never any question of it being axed." Hammond is currently being treated in a Bristol hospital, and is expected to be "back to his old self" within six months.

Rocker RAY DAVIES has sparked reports of a forthcoming KINKS reunion - despite having a fiery relationship with his brother and bandmate DAVE.
The former Kinks frontman dropped the hint as he picked up a Music Icon award at last night’s (04OCT06) Broadcast Music (BMI) awards in London.
He insisted he was desperately trying to contact his brother, who is on the mend after suffering a stroke in 2004.
He said, "I’m trying to track my brother down, see how he’s doing. He’s playing again, so it’s a good sign."

Pop superstar PRINCE recently offered sexy dancers at a Hollywood strip club twice their nightly rate to go home, because their gyrations offended his beliefs as a Jehovah’s Witness.
The 48-year-old is believed to be a regular at the Xenii night spot, but he told the female performers it was "wrong to dance like that," according to British newspaper The Sun.
He added, "What would your parents think if they could see you now? You’re too good for this. You shouldn’t be selling yourself so cheap." The dancers refused Prince’s offer, however.
A party-goer said, "No-one knows why he comes here. He doesn’t drink, doesn’t like the music and now doesn’t like the dancers."

MARKY RAMONE struggled to contain his emotions at the London screening of RAMONES docu-film TOO TOUGH TO DIE: A TRIBUTE TO JOHNNY RAMONE last night (04OCT06), because it highlighted the painful fact he is the only surviving member of the New York punk band.
The film, which is part of the prestigious Raindance Film Festival, features footage from the BEAT ON THE BRAT band’s 30 year anniversary concert in 2004, starring DEBBIE HARRY and PEARL JAM’S EDDIE VEDDER in the line-up. The gig was filmed just two days before JOHNNY RAMONE died from cancer.
JOEY and DEE DEE RAMONE had also passed away within the three years before Johnny’s demise, and drummer Marky found the film brought back difficult memories.
He says, "It’s a reminder of the three friends I had, and bandmates that I had who are no longer with us. Along with me, I’m sure a lot of the fans feel the same way." But he insists that despite his bandmates’ demise, the iconic group have as strong a message for today’s young generation as they did in the 1970s. He adds, "The Ramones relate to youth and for some reason youth looks at them as a band that’s still fresh, and has something to offer still.
"We did write about frustrations and anxieties that youth has. Every generation has the same problems."

American R&B singer R. KELLY is reportedly being sued by a man who describes himself as Kelly’s former "mentor and guide", accusing the star of attacking him and also failing to honour a financial agreement.
In the lawsuit filed yesterday (04OCT06), HENRY ‘LOVE’ VAUGHN alleges that in February (06), Vaughn went to Kelly’s home in Olympia Fields to watch a basketball game, when one of Kelly’s other employees became "verbally abusive".
Kelly allegedly then dragged Vaughn to the basement, where he claims he was attacked and held against his will.
Whilst local police investigated the accusations, no charges were filed.
Vaughn also claims Kelly owes him money for the concept of the song STEP IN THE NAME OF LOVE, for which Kelly promised to equally split the profits.
In a written statement, Kelly’s representative described Vaughn as a "disgruntled former employee and hanger-on", whose sole interest is to extort money from the singer.
The statement reads, "In fact, his lawsuit is a pathetic collection of half-truths, distortions, and outright lies." Vaughn is seeking compensatory damages, punitive damages and court costs.

LATEST: SIR BOB GELDOF’s daughter PEACHES is convinced her mobile phone set off security alarms when she was mistakenly suspected of shoplifting at a London shop on Tuesday (03OCT06).
The 17-year-old socialite was stopped by guards as she tried to leave the flagship Urban Outfitters store in the British capital’s shopping mecca Oxford Street.
After being questioned for an hour, she was allowed to leave.
Her friend tells British newspaper website Daily Mail Online, "Peaches is adamant that her phone had something to do with it because she has heard that it has happened to some of her friends before.
"That was her immediate reaction because she didn’t think it could have possibly been anything else. She just thought it was one of those dodgy things that can happen with those alarms.
"She has absolutely no need to steal anything from shops because, without being arrogant, she has enough money to buy modestly priced clothing.
"Peaches is beginning to feel that she is being singled out now, it is getting ridiculous. She has had to explain everything to her dad, who is very understanding and he is on her side."

BECK’s upcoming new album THE INFORMATION has been barred from inclusion in the British album chart because its bonus features contravene the Official Chart Company’s (OCC) rules.
The CD comes with a DVD of homemade videos for each song and stickers which let fans design their own album artwork - extra features which make it ineligible for a chart place on Sunday (08OCT06).
The OCC rules that these extra items give Beck’s LP an "unfair advantage" over other releases.
Beck’s spokesperson says, "We knew before the album was released that the DVD and stickers would affect its chart eligibility, but they’re both such brilliant ideas that it was never a question of us doing anything different from what Beck had planned for the release of The Information."

The ‘Devil Wears Prada’ actress says she has never been happy with her appearance and is desperate to look like ‘Kill Bill’ star Uma.
She revealed to Britain’s You magazine: "There are far more beautiful actresses than me. I love Uma Thurman. I would kill to have her face and body and be six feet tall.
"I wasn’t at all happy with my appearance when I was an adolescent. I have to be careful, in Hollywood if you are bigger than a size 10 you’re considered fat." The 23-year-old also revealed she was terrified about meeting her co-star Meryl Streep on the set of ‘Devil Wears Prada’.
She said: "Acting with Meryl was like taking a cold bath of terror. I got a little neurotic when she would mention other ‘brilliant’ young actresses she had worked with - referring to Lindsay Lohan. They worked together on ‘A Prairie Home Companion’.

McCaughrean was hand-picked to write belated sequel PETER PAN IN SCARLET by bosses at London’s Great Ormond Street Hospital, who were left the rights to Peter Pan by original author JM BARRIE.
And she is concerned her work will not compare to that of Barrie, who died in 1937.
She says, "Now I’m quivering like a greyhound, waiting to see what people think of my book when it finally hits the shops. Will Peter Pan and Neverland work their infallible magic?"

Latino actor GAEL GARCIA BERNAL is disgusted by the racial discrimination Mexican immigrants still face in post 9/11 America, because he hoped the terrorist attacks would bring the ethnically-diverse nation together.
