Actress-turned-activist BRIGITTE BARDOT has defended an animal rights group’s invasion of JEAN PAUL GAULTIER’s Paris boutique, branding the designer an "imbecile".
A group of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) activists were arrested on Monday (02OCT06) during the French capital’s fashion week. They allegedly stormed Gaultier’s flagship boutique and doused the designer’s windows with red paint in protest of his use of animal fur.
However, Bardot, who has set up her own charity to outlaw animal abuses, tells PageSix.com the protest was justified.
She said via a spokesperson, "I cannot believe that (Gaultier) is unable to (stop using fur). Only imbeciles do not change opinions."

Illusionist ROY HORN revisited the scene where he was mauled onstage by a tiger to be inducted into the Las Vegas Walk of Stars yesterday (03OCT06).
The entertainer was in critical condition for several weeks after the 2003 attack, and was said to have suffered a stroke and partial paralysis.
But the German-born star is recuperating well and looked in good form at the ceremony, which took place in front of The Mirage hotel where Horn was attacked.
Showbiz partner SIEGFRIED FISCHBACHER was also honoured.
Horn said after the ceremony it had been "a deeply emotional experience".
He added of his rehabilitation: "We’ll go horseback riding and I’m driving my new car, yes. I’ve got a new sports car."

ERIC CLAPTON became so stressed by his status as a guitar great he turned to drink and drugs to lower people’s expectations.
The multi-Grammy-winning artist rocketed to fame with 1960s supergroup CREAM but soon became overwhelmed by his success.
He reveals his behaviour spiralled out of control as the pressure grew too intense: "It kind of followed me a little while, and then, you know, when I started to get into the dope and the drink… I stopped playing lead. I was just really getting lazy.
"I think I deliberately, at some point, tried to undermine, get rid of it, you know. Because the guitar legend thing was big, in the early ’70s. And it became a shackle, you know."

LATEST: Jazz singer DIANA KRALL had no qualms about announcing her pregnancy with twins to the press, because she wanted to tell the world before gossip journalists started speculating.
The 41-year-old wife of ELVIS COSTELLO made the announcement in a press release last month (SEP06), but she still can’t believe how rapidly the news spread.
She says, "We made our statement so that people wouldn’t start speculating.
We said it, it’s out there and it’s happy news.
"I thought we’d just put out a press release and maybe AP would it pick it up, then Elvis told me he saw it on the CNN news ticker! I can’t quite believe it." The babies will arrive just in time for the couple’s third wedding anniversary on 6 December (06).

PANIC! AT THE DISCO have defended their decision to cover QUEEN classic BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY on tour, insisting their hard work perfecting the difficult harmonies will pay off.
The Las Vegas band are no strangers to cult covers - they’ve already performed versions of SMASHING PUMPKINS’ TONIGHT TONIGHT and RADIOHEAD’s KARMA POLICE.
But many fans feared plans to interpret the Queen hit on the band’s upcoming US tour would backfire because of its complicated arrangement.
Guitarist RYAN ROSS tells MTV, "Bohemian Rhapsody’ is one of the hardest (songs) to cover, and we’ve been working on it.
"The idea of it kind of blows my mind though, I mean, it would be all of us, plus our touring keyboard player, singing the harmonies. That seems like it would be a lot of fun." The tour kicks off in Florida in November (06).

Popular AMERICAN IDOL judge PAULA ABDUL has been named Woman of the Year by a Nevada ballet company for her efforts in dance and choreography.
Abdul, a former Los Angeles Lakers dancer, will join recent honorees CELINE DION and CAROL CHANNING when she picks up the Nevada Ballet Theatre award in Las Vegas next year (27JAN07).
The company’s co-founder NANCY HOUSSELS said in a statement, "Everyone knows Paula as the judge of the popular show, ‘American Idol.’ But they may not be aware of her extensive work with children through her cheerleading camps and scholarship programs.
"Her warm personality and talent have touched every aspect of the arts and entertainment world. Paula exemplifies the qualities we look for in an honoree."

A libel suit filed against two Philadelphia, Pennsylvania newspapers over late rapper TUPAC SHAKUR’s lyrics won’t be revived, the Supreme Court has ruled.
Civil rights activist C DELORES TUCKER, who died last year (05), originally brought legal action against the slain hip-hop star for writing lyrics that rhymed her surname with an obscenity. She claimed her husband, WILLIAM TUCKER, had suffered loss of "consortium" because of the emotional distress caused.
When the case was dismissed, she sued The Philadelphia Daily News and The Legal Intelligencer for mischaracterising her dispute. They wrongly reported loss of consortium to mean harm to the Tuckers’ sex life.
After his wife’s death, William Tucker pursued the libel suit on their behalf. Pennsylvania state courts dismissed it and the Supreme Court in Washington followed suit on Monday (02OCT06).
The Supreme Court also previously rejected Tucker’s appeal in a similar libel case against Time and Newsweek magazines.

LIZA MINNELLI has explained her string of childless marriages as "God’s will".
The Hollywood star was desperate for a brood of kids in her youth, but tragically suffered several miscarriages.
But she works tirelessly with sick children, and is thrilled to lavish her maternal love on them and her godchildren instead.
She says, "I very much wanted kids, but it didn’t happen.
"I now have 18 godchildren and I work with brain-injured kids and ones with cancer.
"There are more children in my life than I ever thought I’d have.
"But no, I don’t see it as a matter of regret, I see it as God’s will."

The former Police singer is releasing a classical album of songs composed by the 16th century lute composer John Dowland, a project he has been working on and "tampering" with for twenty years.
Sting is convinced the LP will be a commercial failure because it’s so obscure but he insists he had to make it because his instinct told him to.
He revealed in an interview with Britain’s BBC Music Magazine: "If I told you I was doing a Dowland record to make money, you’d shoot me. I did it out of love, I did it out of curiosity, a sense of adventure. I can’t really explain why. My instinct told me it was right for me.
"If people like it, the public or the critics, then that’s the cream on the cake for me." In between the songs on the album Sting reads extracts from a letter written by the medieval lute player to help his fans understand the history behind the compositions.
He said: "I wanted to try and present the music with a context that might help my fans."

The ‘Purple Rain’ singer, who is a Jehovah’s Witness, is said to have begged the gorgeous girls to cover up while he was partying at top Los Angeles nightclub Xenii.
According to reports, Prince told the strippers: "It’s wrong to dance like that. You’re too good for this. You shouldn’t be selling yourself so cheap." A source added: "The girls told him they needed the money. Prince even asked them how much they were paid per night and offered to give them twice as much to stop." The strippers reportedly rejected his offer insisting they were happy to flaunt their shapely curves.
Although the diminutive music legend was unable to persuade the girls to keep their clothes on, he did convince nightclub bosses not to play hip-hop songs containing obscene lyrics while he was there.
Since becoming a Jehovah’s Witness, a dogmatic type of Christian sect, Prince now refuses to perform over 50 of his singles because of the explicit lyrics contained in them.
His religious transformation began with the tragic loss of his child, Gregory, who died in October 1996 from a rare skull disease called Pfieffer’s Syndrome.
The star has even reportedly refused a much-needed hip replacement operation - because the religion does not allow blood transfusions.

The British actor revealed his hatred of fame at the world premiere of his latest film ‘The History Boys’ in London on Monday night (02.10.06).
Griffiths flew to the lavish event just hours after completing an award-winning run of the original stage version on New York’s Broadway.
When asked if he enjoyed having a star’s lifestyle, he moaned to BANG Showbiz: "No it’s loathsome. I’m jet-lagged as I speak, I’m not sure what day it is and my knee hurts. He said: "I think it sucks as an idea. Bruce Robinson spent seven years working on a screenplay and it was not written for the stage.
"The difference between a film and a play is that a play is a story told with language and film is a story told with pictures.
"And, although the lines are famous from ‘Withnail and I’, it is the pictures that carry the story."

The controversial duo raised eyebrows when they wore dresses to the prestigious 2000 ceremony. They have now revealed that they weren’t fazed about the stunt because they were ‘tripping’ on the hallucinogenic drug.
Matt revealed to America’s FHM magazine: "We took acid and tripped. It seemed like the right day - drop acid and get on the red carpet in a dress.
"I haven’t taken acid since then." The pair are currently working on a new Broadway musical - about Mormons.
The show - which is being co-created by ‘Avenue Q’ writer Jeff Marx - is currently being developed by the comic duo but is yet to be given a title.
Marx recently said: "Trey and Matt were over with me in London while I was opening ‘Q’ and so far we’ve written about four songs but we’ve got loads more ideas.
"The show is going to have nothing to do with ‘South Park’, or my musical.
It’ll be something totally new and it’s going to be something totally different." Trey and Matt are no strangers to poking fun at organised religion.
They famously attacked Tom Cruise, John Travolta and former ‘South Park’ cast member Isaac Hayes for their Scientology beliefs.

BEYONCE KNOWLES was left red-faced at the launch of her new fashion boutique House Of Dereon in Chicago on Thursday (28SEP06), when her mother TINA KNOWLES lashed out at a reporter who pointed out faults in her designs.
Mother and daughter were initially all smiles as they greeted the press, but when WBBM-TV journalist DOROTHY TUCKER pointed out that many of the garments had been sent back by stores because they had been sized wrong, the matriarch demanded the cameras to stop rolling.
Tucker inquired, "They’re beautiful (clothes), but the next question - I don’t quite understand it, and maybe you guys can explain it for me - your clothes are sold in about a dozen stores in the Chicago area.
"We did get a phone call from a couple of those stores who said they had to send the production back, that there was a poor fit, the tops weren’t…" Tina immediately cut her off, snapping, "Why would you - wait, wait, wait we’re going to cut that off. Why would you do that? You’re here to interview us about the clothes, in a positive light." Tucker claimed she had spoken to several retailers who had been unable to get a response from the company, and attempted to get an explanation, persisting, "It doesn’t make any sense, because I’m looking at the clothing…", to which Tina blasted, "Yeah, but I don’t want to talk about that on the air."
