Jennifer Lopez felt "compelled" to make her new movie - the upcoming biopic ‘El Cantante’.

The singer-and-actress decided to make the film - which depicts the life of Hector Lavoe, the man who is credited with bringing salsa to the US - after his widow begged her to take on the role.
Jennifer revealed to People magazine: "Once I read the script, I knew there was something about their life, the relationship they had, that was compelling to watch." Hector - who committed suicide in 1993 by jumping off a building following a long running battle with drug addiction - is played by J.Lo’s husband Marc Anthony.
Marc was determined to put his heart and soul into the role so people would get to know the real Hector Lavoe.
He explained: "Hector painted this clear picture of what you could be if you put your mind to it, but how painful a life you could live if you made the wrong choices. I got tired of people saying, ‘Oh Hector Lavoe, he’s the guy who jumped and the drug addict’." He added: "I was focusing on making it as personal as possible. What did he go through that day? What pushed him over the edge? What made him make some of those destructive decisions?" ‘El Cantante’ - which marks the couple’s first on screen appearance together - is due to be released later this year.
