TOM CRUISE treated his mother to a whole lotta LOVE at the weekend (22SEP06) when he took her and 10 family members to Las Vegas, Nevada to celebrate her 70th birthday.
The actor’s mum MARY LEE, his wife-to-be KATIE HOLMES and other lucky family members checked out Cirque du Soleil’s Beatles show Love at the Mirage and were then treated to a backstage tour.
As they did for SIR PAUL McCARTNEY earlier this summer (06), the Cirque du Soleil cast sang HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Cruise’s thrilled mother, who was also treated to a meal at Wynn Las Vegas’ signature steakhouse SW.

DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES star EVA LONGORIA is so busy with her career and relationship with basketball player boyfriend TONY PARKER, she had her real estate agent pick out a house and buy it for her.
Longoria instructed her realtor to select only one house and she bought it on the spot without looking at any other options.
She explains, "I just bought a new house just down the street from where I live. It was literally down the street.
"I told my realtor show me a house and they did and they go, ‘Why don’t you look at one more?’ And I said, ‘Oh, my God!’ "I’m lazy when it comes to stuff like that. I just want to move in and sleep!"

SHAKIRA looks set to be crowned queen of the upcoming Latin Grammy Awards this November (06) after landing six nominations this morning (26SEP06).
The HIPS DON’T LIE singer will fight it out for the Album Of The Year (FIJACION ORAL, VOL 1) and Single Of The Year (LA TORTURA) prizes and the latter hit, a duet with ALEJANDRO SANZ, is also up for Song and Record Of The Year.
The Colombian pop superstar will be homing this haul will serve her better than her last one - Shakira was nominated for seven gongs and won only one.
Others hoping for big awards at the Latin Grammys include RICARDO ARJONA, rocker GUSTAVO CERATI and JULIETA VENEGAS, who each picked up four nominations.

Original supermodel JANICE DICKINSON has told AMERICAN IDOL judge SIMON COWELL to ditch his girlfriend - and go out with her.
The 52-year-old beauty earned herself a reputation as a straight-talker when she appeared as a judge on television programme AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL, alongside host TYRA BANKS.
Dickinson says, "He’s the sexiest man on TV. I adored grabbing his saggy white a*s when I appeared on American Idol.

MARCIA CROSS was thrilled when she found out she was the most popular of the DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES cast in England, because she doesn’t consider herself sexy.
The star, who plays BREE VAN DE CAMP on the hit series, insists the English fans love her because she is so uptight.
Cross claims she was beside herself when she found out she was the most popular character saying, "I was very excited to hear it, first of all. It did wonders for my ego to find out that the English men thought I was sexy, because I sort of don’t think of myself as the sexy one on our show.
"They like that buttoned-down, repressed kind of stuff, you know, maybe the argyle…" The series is shown in 150 countries across the world and Cross is concerned that people will assume their characters represent typical American housewives.
She adds, "That’s really frightening. Japan - I can’t imagine what they think!"

SCRUBS actress JUDY REYES is recovering after fracturing her pelvis during a fall last Wednesday (20SEP06).
Reyes, who plays nurse CARLA ESPINOSA on the show, will be released from hospital next Monday (02OCT06).
Her representative, MONIQUE WARD, tells American publication People, "She’s going to be fine. She had an accidental fall at home and fractured her pelvis on Wednesday.
"She had surgery to repair it on Thursday. She didn’t realise it was as bad as it was and still went to work.
"Once there, she realised she needed medical treatment. She went to a hospital from the set." Reyes will be on crutches for approximately six weeks, but is expected to shoot some scenes while she heals, while other parts of the filming schedule will be reworked so that she can complete her scenes at a later date.

TWISTED SISTER frontman DEE SNIDER is planning to ‘celebrate’ Halloween by staging a show called VAN HELSING’S CURSE with an 18-piece gothic rock orchestra in Las Vegas, Nevada next month (20-21OCT06).
Snider made the announcement of the Hard Rock Hotel show at a press conference last week (ends22SEP06), for which he arrived at the venue in a hearse and then popped out of a coffin.

Multi-millionaire country star KENNY CHESNEY has hinted at the reason why his marriage to RENEE ZELLWEGER fell flat - she was unaware of his addiction to laundry.
The singer/songwriter has confessed he’s obsessed with doing his own laundry and can’t go a day without sitting in front of the front-loader.
He says, "I’ve done my own laundry ever since I was a little kid. I mean my mom worked and she was a single, working mother and so, if I was gonna have clean underwear, I had to do it.
"Now I’m so particular that I won’t let anybody else touch it.
"On the road, (I do it) every day. You’ve got hours to waste… Usually at the venue, arena or wherever we’re playing they have a facility.
"I’m one of those people who are addicted to laundry. I’m always doing it…
My clothes smell really good."

Rocker JOAN JETT considered joining the military after she was left shaken by the split of her first band THE RUNAWAYS.
Jett regularly plays for soldiers in combat zones and insists she feels a very deep connection with US troops.
She explains, "We’ve done several of those trips - we’ve been to Bosnia, Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, Pakistan - right after 9/11, too.
"It was so intense, they wouldn’t really let the whole band in the first time, so I just went by myself.
"I think part of it is just recognising that these are just people that love music, too.
"When my first band, The Runaways broke up, I was in a really bad place and for a very brief moment I thought about maybe joining one of the branches of the military just to maybe get myself together.
"(Playing for the troops is) really rewarding. It made me realise that all the people that serve are just regular people like us. I was just drawn to bring them a little piece of home."

DONNY OSMOND owes his wife DEBBIE for helping him come to terms with and conquer his secret social anxiety disorder.
The PUPPY LOVE singer has revealed he was left crippled with low self-esteem and confidence issues when his pop career fizzled out in the 1980s and he felt so ill before big shows that he was convinced he’d die onstage.
He says, "Nobody knew. I hid it very well. I would just start sweating and my heart would just go crazy and I’d panic. I would walk onstage knowing that I was going to die.
"I lost my career, my 20s were horrible. I had to reinvent myself." But wise words from his wife of 28 years gave Osmond the boost he needed and he has since conquered his stagefright-related issues, which allows him to perform at his best every night onstage in Broadway, New York musical BEAUTY & THE BEAST.
He adds, "She turned to me and said, ‘Why don’t you do yourself a favour and everybody in the audience and go out there and do an average job; just be average tonight.’ "It gave me licence to just be average - it was the best performance I ever gave."

Veteran singer TONY BENNETT insists that he and singer ROSEMARY CLOONEY were the first AMERICAN IDOL winners, because they were the first to launch their singing careers on TV.
The 80-year-old claims it’s harder sustain a career in the music business now because it’s all about record sales.
He explains, "You watch American Idol and see the talent these kids have now, the potential.
"Rosemary Clooney and I were the first American Idols; we got started on a show. But that era was different.
"Now you’ve got to make money right away. If the first record makes it, the artist has to spend a lot of money on promotion, accountants, lawyers, managers, agents.
"Then if the second album doesn’t make it, they just set the artist down and go with the next overdog. To me, that’s very cruel."

Rapper SNOOP DOGG will join hip-hop stars including TYRESE, TOO SHORT, BONE THUGS-N-HARMONY and MC LYTE at the Los Angeles Hip-Hop Summit on Saturday (30SEP06).
The summit will be held at the University Of Southern California and will help educate students and other members of the community about financial literacy.
Other hip-hop artists and celebrities involved include MELYSSA FORD, YO YO, CHINGO BLING, KID FROST, LAMAR ODOM and JARAJI HENSON.
The Get Your Money Right tour will also stop in Dallas, Texas on 14 October (06) and Toronto, Canada on 28 October (06).

Pop star PINK’s motocross champion husband CARY HART is being sued by his former tattoo parlour partner over monies he claims he’s owed.
Promoter JOHN HUNTINGTON joined forces with Hart when the biker opened his hip tattoo shop at the Palms Casino, but now he has filed a lawsuit against Hart, alleging he is owed large amounts of money for his trademark and likeness.
In documents obtained by website EyeOnVegas.com, Huntington claims he sold his 48 per cent ownership back to Hart last year (05) and has only received one payment since.
Huntington’s legal team states that several letters, audit requests and phone calls have gone unanswered, but they believe Hart owes his former partner in excess of $500,000 (£277,800).

So, I look at that like, ‘Where’s your values at?’" Nick adds, "I feel bad for my brother. He’s looking for love, he’s a lovesick guy and he kind of got with the wrong person."
