Actress BRITTANY MURPHY learned first hand about her mother’s breast cancer diagnosis, because she called the hospital for test results and pretended to be her mum.
Murphy was 15 and working on the movie CLUELESS with ALICIA SILVERSTONE when her mother underwent cancer tests, and she just couldn’t wait to hear the good or bad news.
She recalls, "I knew that she was going to get her biopsy results that day, but I hadn’t heard from her.
"So, between takes, I called the doctor’s office, pretending to be her, and they told me it was malignant. I’ll never forget that day as long as I live." In an exclusive interview with America’s Self magazine, the JUST MARRIED star reveals she had her own breast cancer scare recently - and it made her realise fully what her mother went through to beat the disease..
She adds, "Thank God it was OK… They removed the lumps. I had numbness in my right nipple for almost a year. Now it’s only slightly duller than the left side.
"It took a while for me to start feeling comfortable with them again. That’s when it became even clearer how personal it all is.
"It made me understand what it must have been like for my mother."

Martial arts star JET LI is suffering from a mystery blood disorder.
The Chinese action man has baffled medics after calling on them to help him battle the crippling pain he felt after completing work on new movie FEARLESS.
He feared that a stunt that went wrong and led to him and a co-star tumbling off a building had left him with severe internal injuries, but he got a clean bill of health when he visited top doctors.
Li says, "There was something wrong inside. I went to the hospital and they did a lot of X-rays and checked everything.
"Even today, I’ve got something inside, a problem. It’s not the bone broken or something like that; that’s easy. Something’s wrong inside. I hope I’m OK."

Supermodel NAOMI CAMPBELL was furious when she landed in Australia yesterday (21SEPT06), because she mistakenly thought Qantas airline employees had tipped off the press about her arrival.
Campbell had flown from Bangkok, Thailand, to Sydney and let loose on a flight attendant trailing her with her luggage trolley.
The volatile supermodel, who has a history of abusing her assistants, told the attendant, "F**k off! I am never flying Qantas again!" The airline confirmed Campbell was on the flight, but were baffled as to why she was so angry.
A Qantas spokesman says, "We are not aware of any issue Ms Campbell may have had on her Qantas flight. And we’ve looked into all angles from departure to in-flight and arrival." According to the Sydney Daily Telegraph, Campbell was under the mistaken impression that Qantas had tipped the media off, when, in fact, the newspaper’s reporters were at the terminal for another story when a passenger on her flight told the media that she was about to emerge from the arrivals gate. Campbell first told the press that she was in Sydney on a "private engagement… a funeral" before screaming, "F**k off! Respect my privacy!" The airport tantrum is the latest in a series of outbursts from the supermodel, who is currently facing the possibility of a seven-year jail term in the US for allegedly throwing a phone at her former maid.

AMERICAN IDOL star CLAY AIKEN is planning to join the celebrity adoption army, so he can help an orphan realise their full potential.
The singer, who was recently appointed to US President GEORGE W BUSH’s White House disability committee, admits he has always dreamed of becoming a father even if it means adoption.
He says, "There’s an orphanage not too far from my house, and I’ve been up (there) before with (my) church.
"I always thought, ‘What happens to those kids who have the potential to go to college but just can’t afford it?’ I’ve been thinking a lot lately about finding a way to pay for one of those kids to go to college." Aiken has a long history with helping children - before entering the American Idol contest, the singer worked with special needs kids in his native North Carolina.

SIR PAUL McCARTNEY will debut his new classical work ECCE COR MEUM (BEHOLD MY HEART) at the Royal Albert Hall in London on 3 November (06).
The concert will feature soprano KATE ROYAL, the Academy Of St Martin-In-the-Fields Orchestra, London Voices, the Magdalen College Choir, the King’s College Choir and conductor GAVIN GREENAWAY.
The same cast also appears on the studio recording of the album, which will be released on Tuesday (26SEPT06).
ANTHONY SMITH, who was president of Magdalen College from 1998 until 2005, asked the former BEATLE to compose a work celebrating the opening of the Oxford University college’s new concert hall.
The first version of Ecce Cor Meum was performed with the Magdalen College Choir at Oxford’s Sheldonian Theatre in England in November 2001.
McCartney claims this early performance taught him a great deal: "Eventually I made it all come together through correcting a lot of misapprehensions - a lot was learned before the Sheldonian performance, but a lot of it was learned afterwards.
"If it had been a Beatles song, I would have known how to do it. But this was a completely different ball game." Ecce Cor Meum is McCartney’s fourth classical album - his first, THE LIVERPOOL ORATORIO, was released in 1991.

"As for David, I don’t know him personally, but in cases like this the truth usually lies somewhere in the middle. The end result is nobody comes out looking good.

The unusual qualities are essential for candidates desperate to play hobbits in the new ‘Lord Of The Rings’ West End production.
Apart from outstanding vocal ability the wannabes must also "display hobbit-like tendencies".
All hopefuls must be less that 5ft 7ins in height, aged 16-35 and, according to the casting director, "hairy toes and feet are a distinct advantage".
The £25 million stage adaptation of JRR Tolkien’s trilogy opens in London next summer.

A Nigerian man accused of killing his brother has denied murdering him - claiming he only killed a goat.
The man, who is currently on trial, told police he slaughtered a goat which he claims mysteriously metamorphosed into his brother.
Police Commissioner Udom Ekpoudom said: "He said that the goats were on his farm and he tried to chase them away. When one wouldn’t move, he attacked it with an axe. He said it then turned into his brother." Murder suspects in Nigeria, where many people believe in black magic, sometimes claim spirits tricked them into killing.

A six-year-old US boy caused chaos when he handcuffed himself to a stuffed reindeer.
Kevon Gorham, from North Charleston, South Carolina, was pretending to be a police officer when he decided to restrain one of his favourite toys, by handcuffing it to his own wrist.
Kevon’s parents tried to remove the manacles, but eventually had to call the real police force.
Kevon’s mother Rolanda said: "We were watching TV in the bedroom and he came in there with handcuffs on, dragging the reindeer behind him. He was crying, and he said he couldn’t get it off." Officer Phillip Alger and three firefighters arrived and unsuccessfully tried to remove the shackles with soapy water and bolt cutters, before the lock was finally picked with a hairpin.
Kevon said: "I might ask Santa Claus to get me a police key for Christmas."

A US woman has demanded her pet monkey accompany her to dinner for "emotional support".
Debby Rose from Missouri, asked her local health authority to let her bring Richard the monkey into restaurants with her as a ’service animal’.
Debby - who suffers from anxiety - insists the animal calms her and should be allowed to go into public places under the American Disabilities Act, which is often applied to guide dogs.
The health department initially upheld Debby’s request but soon withdrew it when restaurateurs complained Richard did not meet ’service animal’ requirements.
A Health Department spokesperson said: "Bottom line is, the monkey performs no service for her under the definition of government regulations and cannot be classified. Richard therefore cannot go into a food establishment."
