Madonna’s ‘Confessions’ world tour is the top grossing tour ever by a female artist.
The controversial show - which started in Los Angeles on May 21 and ends at the Tokyo dome on Thursday (21.09.06) - has made $193.7 million.
The previous holder of the accolade was ‘Believe’ singer Cher who raked up $192.5 million on her 273 date ‘Farewell’ tour that lasted almost three years.
Madonna’s last tour, ‘Re-Invention’, earned her $125 million, while her 2001 ‘Drowned’ shows made $75 million.
Meanwhile, it has been revealed that a US TV network could axe a proposed primetime Madonna concert special - because of her controversial mock crucifixion.
Bosses at NBC are yet to decide whether to air a performance from her ‘Confessions’ tour in which she performs while suspended on a giant cross wearing a crown of thorns.
An NBC spokesperson said: "We’re awaiting the delivery of a tape of the performance and once we’ve seen it in its entirety, we’ll make a decision."
