JAZZ FANS PROTEST MOBO OMISSION

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 9:38 am

Furious jazz fans staged a protest outside last night’s (20SEP06) Music Of Black Origin (MOBO) Awards after the genre was scrapped from the prize categories.
Led by jazz saxophonist and former MOBO winner COURTNEY PINE, the peaceful protest outside London’s Royal Albert Hall was designed to highlight the outrage felt at ignoring the genre altogether this year (06).
Pine says, "The MOBOs was the only thing that recognised jazz in that way.
"Jazz was the stepping stone for rock ‘n’ roll, rhythm and blues - all popular music. Folks have got to know that we have been excluded."

    1. It was actually trumpeter/vocalist Abram Wilson (a Dune Records artist) who organised and led the demonstration, not Courtney Pine!
