PETTY TO BE HONOURED AS HOMETOWN HERO

Rockers TOM PETTY & THE HEARTBREAKERS are to be honoured with the key to the city of their native Gainesville, Florida when they go home for a sold-out show tomorrow (21SEP06).
September 21 will be dubbed Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers Day, marking the group’s first hometown concert in 13 years.
Petty, guitarist MIKE CAMPBELL and keyboard player BENMONT TENCH were all born and raised in and around Gainesville.
Gainesville Mayor PEGEEN HANRAHAN will present the band with the key to the city.
Petty will also be presented with the University Of Florida’s Distinguished Achievement Award, which is given to individuals for exceptional achievements in a chosen profession.
The group’s Gainesville concert sold out in 10 minutes and will be broadcast live to more than 100 radio stations across America. The concert will also be filmed for a two-hour TV special.
