Former SQUEEZE star GLENN TILBROOK didn’t learn to drive until he was 28 because he enjoyed life in the back of a limousine too much.
The singer/songwriter admits he didn’t develop a passion for driving until well into his 20s and by then Squeeze were international superstars.
He explains, "I didn’t start driving until I was 28. Some kids can’t wait to start driving and I was happy not to, and then the band started taking off and I was always driven places.
"It was never a big issue for me until eventually I thought it might be a good idea to learn." His driving skills came in handy in 2003 when he toured America in a mobile home.

The singer and writer plays Marie Antoinette’s mother MARIA TERESA in the much-anticipated historical epic and feels she was destined to play the stoic character.
She says, "My mother was an Austrian aristocrat and I had 800 years of background to draw on for this role."

The GOT TO GET YOU OFF MY MIND singer has hit the recording studio with DOLLY PARTON, EMMYLOU HARRIS and GILLIAN WELCH, among others, on new album NASHVILLE.
The mostly covers album features the GEORGE JONES/TAMMY WYNETTE classic WE’RE GONNA HOLD ON and BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN’s AIN’T GOT YOU.
But Burke regrets he never got the chance to actually record with Dolly Parton, who reworks her 1969 PORTER WAGONER duet TOMORROW IS FOREVER with the soul man - the two legends recorded their parts separately.
He says, "It’s like I had the buns and didn’t have the hot dogs."

THE BLACK EYED PEAS star FERGIE undergoes regular hypnotherapy sessions in a bid to help her find balance in her life.
The LONDON BRIDGE singer admits she will never forget how terrible her life was when she was in her mid-20s - she was a 90 pound (40.8 kilogram) drug abuser - and she uses hypnotherapy to make sure she never returns to that hell.
She says, "It’s like regular therapy. For the first 50 minutes I’ll vent, and for the last 10 I’ll do deep breathing to get into a more relaxed state.
"I’m always looking for ways to help me find balance. I’m lucky I got through the rough times. Now I’m able to enjoy life again."

Soul star LIONEL RICHIE showed off his sense of humour on America’s JIMMY KIMMEL LIVE on Friday night (15SEP06) when he helped show host Kimmel’s girlfriend pen a quirky love song and then locked lips with her.
In a skit, comedienne SARAH SILVERMAN, who was also a guest on the late-night show, called on Richie to help her write a love song for Kimmel and joined him at a piano.
She insisted on recalling how her boyfriend cries during sex, calls her HUEY LEWIS as he makes love to her and can tie the stalk of a cherry into a bow with his testicles in the song, which left soul start Richie baffled.
But he rewrote his hit HELLO for her, including the line, "I see you in my dreams, but in my dreams you are a Jew," which left a stunned Richie harmonising, "Even though you’re not a Jew." The odd couple then smooched during a tender moment after the singer told Silverman her lyrics were "amazing".

The MATCH POINT star, who recently split with his girlfriend of two years REENA HAMMER, believes playing hard to get is always the key to winning over an object of lust.
He says, "Not wanting someone and not looking like you want them, it’s a good skill to have.

"What is difficult is when people criticise her. She’s a devoted wife and mother and she deserves every success she gets."

ALEC BALDWIN has defended fellow actor CHARLIE SHEEN against allegations he enjoys pornography featuring teenagers.
Baldwin’s ex wife KIM BASINGER hired the same tough legal team for the pair’s ongoing custody wrangle as Sheen’s former love DENISE RICHARDS, who has taken on the services of the lawyers for her current divorce battle with Sheen.
But while he admits Sheen is a "h**ndog", he believes his pal has been unfairly lambasted by the attorneys.

"This one is the most extreme experience until now in a positive way, so you can look at it for what it is and be flattered about it but you cannot expect anything.
"I cannot assume that it’s going to happen because then you can be disappointed if it doesn’t, so I don’t want to think about it."

Hollywood veteran TONY CURTIS nearly destroyed himself with drink and drugs at the height of his career, and became so depressed he considered suicide. The 81-year-old managed to kick his habits and find happiness, and is grateful for the lucky escape he had - even if he does wish he had concentrated more on his career. The SOME LIKE IT HOT actor says, "I could have killed myself. I think I was aiming in that direction. In one of my foggy moments I thought maybe I’d just keep going.
"I was very, very unhappy: unhappy with my career, unhappy with the marriage I was in.
"I looked around me and saw other actors younger than I, and a little bit older, doing well, and I wasn’t doing well. "I can understand it now. I wasn’t reliable enough to use. The word got out that I was using, but everybody was using in those days."

ALEC BALDWIN has spoken out in defence of fellow screen star TOM CRUISE’s Scientology beliefs, insisting followers of his controversial faith are not nearly as worrying as those who "drove planes into the World Trade Center".
The PEARL HARBOR actor believes that, until Scientologists are found to be responsible for atrocities such as the 9/11 attacks, the media should leave Cruise alone.
He tells PageSix.com, "I think what’s been done to Tom is kind of silly. I don’t really understand Tom’s religious beliefs; nor do I want to.
"All I know is I don’t see people who are disciples of Tom’s faith driving planes into the World Trade Center.
"When Scientologists start crashing planes into the Pentagon, then I think we should sit Tom down and have a grand jury talk to him. In the meantime, let’s just leave him alone."

The Kalahari Bushmen have called on LEONARDO DiCAPRIO for help in their battle with the Botswanan government over land rights.
DiCaprio’s upcoming movie BLOOD DIAMOND focuses on how diamond mining in Africa has financed civil wars, and the Bushmen are currently fighting their government’s decision to evict them from their land in the Central Kalahari Desert while diamond companies prospect for the precious stones.
Bushman ROY SESANA writes to the TITANIC star in US publication Variety, "Friends have told us that you are in a film, Blood Diamond, which shows how badly diamonds can hurt. We know this. When we were chased off our land, officials told us it was because of the diamond finds.
"Please help us, Sir. We know you are a famous and respected man, and that if you speak up for us many people will listen. We just want to go home, and hunt and gather and live in peace like we have always done." Actress JULIE CHRISTIE has already offered her support to the Bushmen, saying, "Diamonds as the cause of misery and suffering are not a thing of the past. The Bushman evictions in Botswana are a clear demonstration that local people are still suffering because of these stones."

Aspiring rapper KEVIN FEDERLINE is so desperate to secure impressive record sales for his debut album, he’s ‘bribing’ fans to buy it.
Federline has played down reports of competition with pop star spouse BRITNEY SPEARS, but is making huge efforts to have a hit with PLAYING WITH FIRE.

US metal band SALIVA have delayed an upcoming tour to allow frontman JOSEY SCOTT time to recover from a car crash.
The rockers, whose music is often used by World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) stars, were due to kick off their US shows on Thursday (21SEP06).
However, Scott’s injuries from a recent car crash are still too severe for him to perform.
The tour has been moved back to October (06).

ROD STEWART considered becoming a landscape gardener or returning to work in his family’s London shop when he was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 2000.
The MAGGIE MAY singing legend feared he would lose his voice entirely when surgeons removed a cancerous lump from his throat, forcing him to consider a career change.
He says, "(Having cancer) gets you in line. Gives you a sense of perspective and priority.
"Although I didn’t consider myself a ‘cancer victim’ - I had thyroid cancer which is probably the easiest to get rid of; but if you leave it, then you’re f**ked.
"But I didn’t have a huge ‘battle with cancer’. We dealt with it early so I was lucky.
"I couldn’t sing for nine months so I was weighing up my options. I was considering becoming a landscape gardener or going back to work in the sweet shop in Muswell Hill."

SOULFLY star BOBBY BURNS is taking time out of the group’s busy schedule to recover from a mild stroke.
Bassist Burns fell ill on Thursday (14SEP06) but is expected to make a full recovery.
Dates for the heavy metal group’s tour of Australia in October (06) remain unchanged, MTV reports.

Troubled former pop star ADAM ANT felt like he was dreaming when he walked into a north London pub and threatened drinkers with a replica gun.
The PRINCE CHARMING singer, real name STUART GODDARD, walked into the pub in January 2002 dressed in combat gear and a cowboy hat, claiming he was looking for a man who had threatened him for having a non-existent affair with his wife.
He then pulled out a replica revolver on the venue’s doorman before being apprehended by police as he hailed a taxi.
Goddard recalls, "It was, like, a very dream-like situation. It was not real.
It was like watching yourself doing something.
"But I was woken up and it was real and it was happening. So that was a terrifying experience for me and it’s very vivid in my mind.
"Now, even as I speak, it sends a shiver up my spine just to think about it." Goddard, 51, says he was haunted by the incident, and was brought back to reality when he appeared in court charged with threatening members of the public with an imitation firearm.
He adds, "I did (have nightmares about it), for quite a long time. It was in my thoughts a lot. But you have to come to terms with it.
"Going to the Old Bailey during the period of the trial was a difficult, sobering experience. It’s a very scary place to go." Goddard has been battling bipolar disorder since his teens.
