LATEST: Bereaved parent ANNA NICOLE SMITH has ordered a second autopsy on her son DANIEL’s body - even though the results from the initial autopsy have not yet been confirmed.
The former Playboy model had to be sedated after Daniel, 20, died by her bedside last Sunday (10SEP06), three days after she gave birth to his half-sister in the Bahamas.
And now Smith is so desperate to discover what caused her son’s death, she has requested a second autopsy.
CYRIL WECHT, a US forensic pathologist famous for his expertise on celebrity death investigations including ELVIS PRESLEY, confirms he has been hired to examine the remains of Daniel Smith.
He said, "There’s nothing to comment on. I just have to get there and see what’s happening." Head coroner LINDA VIRGILL, who approved the family’s request to bring in an independent examiner, insisted it was not an unusual step. She confirmed a pathologist would perform the examination today (17SEP06) at a public morgue.
Officials have labelled Daniel’s death "suspicious" and have scheduled a formal inquiry, which is set to begin on 23 October (06).
