Veteran Canadian actor GORDON PINCENT collapsed from exhaustion at the Toronto Film Festival earlier this week (beg11SEP06).
The 76-year-old star had just finished walking up the red carpet with director SARAH POLLEY when he fell and was rushed to the hospital. But Pincent’s publicist says he is recovering well and spent the day after his release from hospital resting at home.
Pincent was at the festival promoting new film AWAY FROM HER, co-starring British actress JULIE CHRISTIE.

Hollywood star JIM CARREY has ditched the agency which launched his career over ten years ago after a series of big screen let-downs.
The ACE VENTURA star has parted company with the United Talent Agency following a tough summer; two big-budget films he was connected with - USED GUYS and RIPLEY’S BELIEVE IT OR NOT - were shut down after exceeding their $100 million (£55 million) -plus budgets.
No longer able to command $20 million (£11 million) per picture, Carrey’s most recent signings have been for low-budget productions. Carrey is not blaming the agency for the split. His publicist MARLEAH LESLIE says, "Mr Carrey has shared an enormous amount of success with UTA over the years for which he is truly grateful. It was a difficult decision to make, but he felt it was time to move on." A spokesperson for UTA says, "With the possible exception of today, Jim Carrey is among the true geniuses of our generation. We wish him eternal sunshine."

Hotly anticipated IDI AMIN biopic THE LAST KING OF SCOTLAND has premiered at the Toronto Film Festival this week (begs10SEP06) - stunning audiences with its "seductive" portrayal of the murderous Ugandan dictator.
The movie tells the story of the former leader’s nine-year tyrannous reign during the 1970s, but FOREST WHITAKER, who plays Amin, insists there was much more to the leader than just killing.
Whitaker, who has been tipped for an Academy Award for his portrayal, says, "You go into the recesses of yourself and try to go into the dark corners of your body and your mind … to allow the soul of a man to be able to come alive.
"I came away with a different understanding of him. All I had before was this image of a dictator who was killing all these people, and it’s true - all these people did die during his reign.
"But afterward, after doing all the research, I started to see something of the other things." Director KEVIN MACDONALD adds, "There was quite a seductive element to (Amin) that made him more dangerous and more terrifying in the end, and more of a threat.
"Amin made Ugandans feel proud to be African, and proud to be Ugandan. He was someone who tried to get rid of the colonial inferiority complex."

Hollywood golden couple KATIE HOLMES and TOM CRUISE are reportedly planning to marry within the next three to six weeks, according to their representative.
Holmes, who gave birth to baby SURI on 18 April (06), and Cruise are working towards a date in "early Autumn".
Cruise and Holmes’ spokesman ARNOLD ROBINSON says, "The wedding is still in the planning stages. They’re really excited about it. They have always said they will be married by early Autumn and they are still in that window. They can’t wait." Rock and Republic fashion president ANDREA BERNHOLTZ says, "All I really know is that the wedding is soon! They will surprise us all." Another source adds, "It’s going to happen in the next three to six weeks."

The OUT OF EXILE supergroup was formed from the ashes of groups SOUNDGARDEN and RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE.
Despite enjoying great success in the US and UK, frontman CHRIS CORNELL is pessimistic.
He says, "Everything’s going great, and now that we know for sure we can make several more great records, somebody’s gotta leave.
"It could be any one of us. And also at this age … unexpected death can happen, too."

Newly reunited British girlband ALL SAINTS are overjoyed to be back together, insisting their famous feud is firmly behind them.
The pop foursome, who originally split acrimoniously five years ago (01), found being apart made them realise how much they really valued each other.
The band’s main songwriter SHAZNAY LEWIS confirms their renewed friendships are stronger than ever, claiming any tensions are completely forgotten.
She tells MTV news, "It almost feels like the last four and half years didn’t happen." Bandmate NATALIE APPLETON adds, "I would remember the four of us together. It was like little ghosts from the past, it was sad. I just missed them."

The STROKES guitarist ALBERT HAMMOND JR turned his hand to a solo project after his bandmates kept rejecting his song-writing efforts.
The axeman felt the need to release some creative energy, but failed to impress the other rockers with his composing skills.
The frustrated artist has now released his debut solo album YOURS TO KEEP which is a compilation of all the songs turned down by the rest of the New York fivesome. He says, "I did suggest my songs (to the rest of The Strokes) once or twice and I got turned down.
"It wasn’t actually JULIAN (CASABLANCAS) who turned it down, it was the other members who didn’t like it. Julian writes the songs and we play them and do our thing with them.
"I don’t think I feel trapped in the band but I’m definitely glad I made this record, "It wasn’t, ‘I wanna get out’, just sometimes after all the press and touring with each other sometimes you want something different."

JENNIFER LOPEZ has her husband MARC ANTHONY to thank for the first single on her Spanish-language album - because it was inspired by a vivid dream he had.
The nocturnal vision featured late Spanish star ROCIO DURCAL singing "a song for Jennifer". Durcal died of cancer just two weeks before she appeared to Anthony in his dreams.
Lopez tells MTV news, "Marc woke up and said, ‘I just had the craziest dream, Rocio Durcal was in this room and she was saying, ‘Come here, get in this room right now, listen to this. This song is for Jennifer," and she was singing a melody.’ " The Latina then made her spouse sing into the answer machine to record QUE HECISTE - which now has pride of place on her album COMO AMA UNA MUJER.

Songwriter BERNIE TAUPIN has revealed he writes hidden messages into the songs he creates for SIR ELTON JOHN.
The acclaimed lyricist, who has worked in partnership with Sir Elton for 40 years, frequently takes full advantage of his position to sneak cryptic messages into their music - with the ROCKET MAN star often only realising years afterwards.
He admits, "I’ve always tried to be aware of his feelings or his social or political bent, but sometimes I can be cryptic, so I’ve slid things in there that I know he won’t realise until later on.
"I’ve been standing on the side of the stage ten years after I’ve written a certain lyric and he’s come off stage and said, ‘I’ve just realised what you said in that song.’"

Veteran rocker ROD STEWART wants to follow in the afterdeath footsteps of ELVIS PRESLEY by being laid to rest in his back garden.
The 61-year-old former grave-digger and husband of PENNY LANCASTER doesn’t want his body to rot in a grave, instead he wants to lie in a fancy mausoleum in the grounds of his English country home.
Stewart says, "Actually, I don’t like the idea of being buried underground. I want to be above ground, like Elvis at his house.
"I’d like a nice little mausoleum here in the garden. I’ll have to write to my MP (Member of Parliament) about that."

Virgin boss Sir RICHARD BRANSON plans to turn his annual V Festival into a global event, by staging festivals in America, Italy, Spain, South Africa, South America and Australia.
Following the success of the summer event held over a weekend at two sites in northern and southern England, Branson has already taken the concept to Canada - and now wants to conquer the world.
He says, "Tours will play a much greater part in the coming years. From a band’s point of view, they make more out of playing live than out of music sales.
"The great thing about doing it in more than one country is we can coordinate it and get the bands moving between countries." The first spin-off was held in Toronto, Canada this month (SEP06). THE WHO and the RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS will headline a one-day US event in Baltimore, Maryland on 23 September (06).

LATEST: SIR PAUL McCARTNEY still faces the prospect of having his beloved log cabin torn down, despite having been convinced he had won the battle to keep it.
The singer, 64, built the secluded hideaway in 2002 on his sprawling estate in East Sussex, England, and has been trying to secure retrospective planning permission from Rother District Council this year (06).
After believing the building had been saved - on the compromise he demolished three of his other buildings on the grounds - the ex-Beatles star has now been informed planning councillors have overturned the decision, because it is a blight on an area of natural beauty.
A site inspection will take place before the council’s next planning committee meeting on 12 October.
Councillor DAVID VEREKER explains, "If we go along this route (keeping the cabin) we will be creating a very, very difficult precedent,"

Ska Films - the company behind Guy’s hit productions ‘Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels’ and ‘Snatch’ - suffered the losses after it failed to produce any successful films in the last two years.
The £110,374 loss from 2005 is said to be the negative effect of Guy’s decision to take a break from directing to spend time with his family.
It has not yet been determined if Guy’s last film ‘Revolver’, which was panned by critics, will manage to improve the company’s accounts for 2006.
The filmmaker - who is married to Madonna - has took more time off this year to look after the couple’s children - Lourdes, Madonna’s daughter from fitness instructor Carlos Leon, and Rocco - while his wife travels the globe on her ‘Confessions’ world tour.

The Hollywood actors - who played undercover detectives Crockett and Tubbs in the movie remake of the cult 80s TV show - are keen to work together again, and are urging director Michael Mann to make a sequel.
A source is quoted as saying: "Colin and Jamie really hit it off on ‘Miami Vice’ but they were disappointed the film didn’t do better.
"They very much want to work together again and they both want another ‘Vice ‘. They feel there is scope for another story." However, the two actors may have their work cut out persuading Mann to agree to make a follow-up.
The director has refused to commit to a sequel and said he will only consider it if he can come up with a brilliant plot first.
At the London premiere of the film in July, Mann said: "If I have an idea for a story that I think I want to do then we’ll see what happens."

The ‘Good Will Hunting’ actor - who returns to the big screen after a two-year break in ‘Hollywoodland’ - says finding the right role to come back with was hard because producers did not see him as a fictional character.
He told the USA Today newspaper: "Modern typecasting isn’t about, ‘I think of you as the captain from ‘Star Trek’, therefore I can’t watch you in ‘X-Men’. Now it’s, ‘I think of you as yourself, therefore I can’t watch you in a fictional story’." Affleck - who won the best actor award at the Venice Film Festival for his portrayal of tragic Superman actor George Reeves in the film - also revealed returning after such a long sabbatical means he has to prove himself again.
He said: "I have to prove myself all over again, but I don’t mind that."

The socialite has been invited to the event by her business partner GUENTHER ALOYS, whose canned prosecco she’s advertising. The pair will visit the Oktoberfest on 25 September (06).
Aloys says, "We want to go to three tents and party." He adds that Hilton also wants to distribute gingerbread hearts to other guests, if the security measures make it possible.
The Oktoberfest begins on Saturday (16SEP06) and ends on 3 October (06).
