Bono suffers from stage fright.

The U2 frontman admits he still gets attacks of pre-show nerves despite being one of the world’s most revered rock stars and a member of the one of the biggest bands on the planet.
Bono, whose phenomenally successful career has spanned over two decades, told Harper’s Bazaar magazine: "The morning before a show I get nervous. I can wake up with a really bad sick feeling. I have to hit very high notes and if you hit them wrong you can put your throat out. So there’s a, ‘Will I? Won’t I?’ aspect to it. It used to worry me sick. That sense of, how could I meet the levels of expectation." The ‘Vertigo’ singer also insists that all rock stars and pop singers are insecure people because they need constant adulation from their fans.
Bono, who is also known for his tireless work in trying to end Third World poverty, added: "If you’re a rock star and you need 25,000 people telling you they love you then obviously you must be a very insecure person."

    1. this is not too surprising, and not just for the obvious that he has stated here, the adulation which may be addictive, and he is a professional perfectionist who honestly and unpretentiously makes it appear so natural. but on the other end of the food chain here, i have massive insecurities and when working for ONE petitioning or in front of a non-profit or such (funny, never feel this way in front of kids tho), but there is like an invisible shell of protection, or a mode to crawl into maybe similar to his stage persona, maybe a mantle that is not my own but the african silent ones that we represent, that provides the confidence. but before and afterwards, when i’m full of “myself,” it’s exhausting and maddening and i’m either agitated or wiped out. somehow, his honesty in sharing this is encouraging to those of us fans who often feel he is invincable, and he is an inspiration to us all. definately to me.
