Womanising British TV host RUSSELL BRAND has hit back at being called a "vile predator" and confesses he really wants a longterm girlfriend.
The star, who has been linked to a string of women over the past months, was slammed by Australian pop singer DANNI MINOGUE after she rebuffed his advances.
He says, "That’s a bit out of order. I’m just a man. I like girls.
"’Vile predator’? If that’s the language you’re going to use about someone who really ought to be described as ‘having an eye for the ladies’, then what sort of language are you left with for (rapist) PETER SUTCLIFFE and (child killer) IAN HUNTLEY? "You know, I’d like to get a girlfriend."

SIR PAUL McCARTNEY has reportedly offered his estranged wife HEATHER MILLS £40 million ($72 million) to never discuss their marriage for the rest of her life.
The offer, made during a secret meeting in the log cabin Mills uses on McCartney’s sprawling estate in south England, will see the former model receive the money over 20 years - provided she never reveals any details of the pair’s four-year marriage, which ended acrimoniously in May (06).
Speaking to British newspaper News Of The World, a source says, "Heather must reveal nothing about their personal lives. No books, no TV specials.
"She has one hell of a story and Paul wants a settlement to make sure it never comes out. Any breach of the conditions would allow him to stop the payments.
"So basically he has control of Heather for the rest of his life."

Former SPICE GIRL VICTORIA BECKHAM has lashed out at critics of TOM CRUISE insisting he is "genuine" and "lovely".
The singer and her soccer star husband DAVID BECKHAM are close pals of Cruise and HOLMES and insist criticism of their scientology beliefs and their parentage of baby SURI is unfair.
She says, "People say he’s strange or whatever but he’s not, he’s just a genuinely lovely, caring person. "And Katie? She’s one of the most down-to-earth celebrities I’ve ever met. I couldn’t imagine a better person for Tom." She adds of four-month-old Suri, "I haven’t seen Suri in the flesh yet, just in pictures and she looks so beautiful, the spitting image of her dad.
"Tom calls me all the time and he’s so in love with that little girl, he’ll phone just to talk about her."

Soccer superstar DAVID BECKHAM is building a £300,000 ($540,000) maze in the garden of his English home to show his adoration for his ex-SPICE GIRL wife VICTORIA.
The 11,250 square foot maze will consist of two circles making the figure ‘8′ - which on its side creates the infinity symbol.
A close friend tells British newspaper Sunday Mirror, "The mazes will be Victoria’s pride and joy.
"They’ll be great fun for the family to play in - while symbolising how much they love each other."

Hollywood mogul GEORGE LUCAS has decided against producing any more feature-length films in the STAR WARS series, but wants the saga to continue on the small screen.
Lucas and director RICK McALLUM are aiming to wow fans with over 100 Star Wars TV episodes.
British actor WARWICK DAVIS, who appeared in THE PHANTOM MENACE and is a friend of Lucas’, says, "Their plan is for there to be more than a hundred episodes and that is a lot of telly."

The 26-year-old beauty, who plays Russian spy VESPER LYND in the upcoming CASINO ROYALE opposite DANIEL CRAIG as James Bond, also claims SEAN CONNERY is her favourite 007.
She says, "I’ve seen Bond movies like anybody. I was never a big fan. I didn’t have any posters in my bedroom. Sean is my favourite Bond because he looks quite naughty."

Hollywood superstar NICOLE KIDMAN has managed to charm staff at a top London hotel despite her request that all the lightbulbs in her suite be changed.
Kidman and her husband KEITH URBAN are staying in a £1,700 (£3,060) per night suite in the Dorchester Hotel, but the actress wanted softer lighting.
On their arrival, she immediately requested that all the 60 watt lightbulbs be changed to less bright 40 watt lightbulbs.
A staff member at the hotel says, "We do get some real divas but she’s been very good. There’s not been as much extra work as you would expect from a movie star.
"Her new husband has been charming."

The widow of tragic CROCODILE HUNTER star STEVE IRWIN has granted their daughter permission to follow in her late father’s footsteps.
Conservationist TERRI IRWIN wants eight-year-old BINDI to star in her own wildlife series, as her dad wanted.
Steve Irwin was filming a news spot for Bindi’s new TV show when he was fatally wounded by a stingray’s barb last Monday (04SEP06).
And mum Terri is determined Bindi will still pursue her own wildlife career.
MARY RAYNER, general manager of the Australian Reptile Park in New South Wales, says, "Bindi will walk in her father’s shoes. Steve was just about to bring his daughter down here to start filming."

British TV host RUSSELL BRAND has slammed reports that he and ROD STEWART have fallen out over comments he made about the rocker’s daughter at an awards ceremony.
The lewd lothario referenced making a pass at Stewart’s daughter when picking up an award at the GQ Man Of The Year Awards in London on Tuesday (05SEP06).
But Stewart reprimanded Brand moments later when collecting an award of his own, saying, "You mustn’t come up here and boast. I speak here as a father." According to Brand the whole spat has been overblown.
He says, "That thing with Rod was made to look like a feud and it annoyed me.
I said what I said as a joke. He responded as a joke."

Hollywood star SYLVESTER STALLONE paid tribute to thousands of fans yesterday (09SEP06) when he unveiled a statue of his legendary boxer character ROCKY BALBOA.
The star first played the part of the rags-to-riches fighter in 1976 and has appeared in five sequels - the sixth movie in the franchise is currently in production.
Speaking to a crowd outside the Museum Of Art in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the 60-year-old actor said, "The statue being here is not about me. It’s about you, because inside every one of you there’s a real Rocky."

CHELSY DAVY was having a quiet evening out when gun-wielding thieves stormed the South African bar she was in. The blonde 20-year-old was forced to lie face down before being stripped of her possessions.
Bar manager DE VILLIERS NIENABER says, "Chelsy had been drinking quietly in the bar with a girlfriend when these guys suddenly got up and threatened us.
"She stayed quiet and calm. There was no screaming or crying and I think that’s what saved our lives."

NICOLE KIDMAN has been left devastated after her latest movie FUR was slammed by US critics, all but ending her hopes of gaining a third Oscar nomination.
Kidman, who plays real-life American photographer DIANE ARBUS in the movie, had believed Fur would be a major contender at the 2007 Academy Awards.
However, following a screening at the Telluride Film Festival, the Wall Street Journal describes Fur as one of the "stinkers" of the Colorado event.
The Hollywood Reporter’s ANNE THOMPSON writes, "Fur is not an Oscar contender", while Variety says the film has "far more metaphysical weight than dramatic force".

LATEST: A friend and colleague of British TV comedian RUSSELL BRAND has been charged in connection with an alleged rape of a female guest at an Edinburgh Festival party last month (AUG06).
TREVOR LOCK, 33, and Brand, 31, were questioned by police last week (ends08SEP06) after a 20-year-old student reported she had been drugged and raped at the bash, held at Brand’s temporary Edinburgh residence to celebrate the end of his run of comedy gigs in the Scottish capital.
Two days after being questioned, Lock - who co-presents Brand’s BBC6 radio show - was arrested and charged.
Brand will possibly be called as a witness in the case.
A police spokesman says, "A 33-year-old man has been arrested and charged following an incident in a flat in North Castle Street, Edinburgh on 28 August."

CROCODILE HUNTER star STEVE IRWIN’s funeral has taken place in Queensland, Australia, according to local media reports.
The low-key private ceremony attended by family and friends went ahead in Caloundra. Irwin will be buried at Australia Zoo, owned by his family.
A source tells Australia’s Sunday Mail newspaper, "The service was a service for family and good friends, people who were close to Steve in recent years.
"The council gave the family permission to bury Steve at the zoo and we think they’re going to erect a monument there so visitors can continue to pay their respects." Internationally acclaimed conservationist Irwin died last Monday (04SEP06) after being stung in the chest by a stingray while diving on the Great Barrier Reef.
The news of his tragic death shocked the world and sparked a huge outpouring of grief, particularly in his homeland Australia.
The country’s Prime Minister JOHN HOWARD had offered a state funeral for Irwin, but his father BOB IRWIN insisted his son would have wanted a simple farewell.

DAME HELEN MIRREN and BEN AFFLECK have taken the acting honours at this year’s (06) Venice Film Festival in Italy.
Mirren was named Best Actress for her performance as British monarch QUEEN ELIZABETH II in THE QUEEN, while Affleck was a surprise win as Best Actor for his part as 1950s TV SUPERMAN actor GEORGE REEVES in HOLLYWOODLAND.
On collecting her award, Mirren said, "It’s an incredible honour to have a film take its first steps here in Venice. (Director) STEPHEN FREARS is the mother of the film. I’m just a bit of the DNA of this film." Chinese movie STILL LIFE (SANXIA HAOREN) won the festival’s top award, the Golden Lion, beating out competition from favourites The Queen, BOBBY and GOLDEN DOOR.
Actress CATHERINE DENEUVE, who headed the jury, praised Still Life as "a very special film. We were very touched and we were very moved." French film-maker ALAIN RESNAIS, 84, won Best Director for PRIVATE FEARS IN PUBLIC PLACES, while Best Screenplay went to PETER MORGAN for The Queen.
Chad movie DARATT won the Special Jury Prize.
