LATEST: Pop star JESSICA SIMPSON has issued a statement, through ROB SHUTER, insisting she didn’t fire him as her publicist. Media reports yesterday (07SEPT06) indicated that her longtime publicist had been sacked after the disastrous coverage of her budding relationship with JOHN MAYER.
Both People and Us Weekly magazines ran cover stories suggesting the pair were dating with Simpson quoted as saying, "I’m in love!" Simpson has since denied that she is seeing Mayer and insists they are just friends. The A PUBLIC AFFAIR singer sent a statement to news website TMZ.com, who first reported the alleged firing, via Shuter, saying, "I did not fire Rob Shuter, he is a great publicist and a great friend." Shuter would not clarify whether or not he still represents the pop star or if they have gone their separate ways.

SEX AND THE CITY star SARAH JESSICA PARKER regrets her decision to wear black at her wedding because she didn’t want to call attention to herself by donning a traditional white gown.
Parker has been married to actor MATTHEW BRODERICK for the past nine years and although they live their lives in the spotlight, they didn’t want any unnecessary attention on their special day.
She explains, "I wore black on my wedding day, and I really regret that. "I was too embarrassed to get married in white and both Matthew and I were reluctant to have people pay so much attention to us. "Which is ridiculous, because that’s when you can relish the attention, when it’s natural. We treated it like it was a big party on a Monday night, and I regret it."

Emmy-award winner KIEFER SUTHERLAND was left shocked during a skiing trip in California when he was approached by a secret agent who wanted to share his undercover experiences.
The actor plays a secret counter-terrorism agent on hit TV series 24 and was stunned when a real undercover agent recognised him.
He explains, "I actually ran into one guy, I had this amazing experience.
"I was skiing in the third season and I went for a small break one weekend up to Mammoth (Mountain) and this gentleman looked over at me.
"I couldn’t understand how he recognised me, so I really do believe this is what he did because I had on a hat, goggles, scarf, and everything, and he went, ‘Kiefer Sutherland, right?’ and he went, ‘I do what you portray on TV. I don’t tell anybody that normally, but this is a rare opportunity and I wish you guys would stop, because my mother can’t figure out why I can’t get anything done in 24 hours.’ "For the rest of the chair-lift ride up I was scared to death, because I wanted to make sure he wasn’t really angry about it. He was actually a really, really cool guy."

EVANESCENCE star AMY LEE’s mother was so worried about the dark lyrics her daughter penned when she first started songwriting, she suggested the teen try counseling.
The goth-rock queen admits her early attempts at poetry and lyrics were sinister and must have terrified her poor mother.
She explains, "She heard me writing music in my room when I was a teenager.
She was like, ‘What are you singing?’ and I read her some lyrics.
"She said, ‘I wonder if you need to talk to somebody." Lee reveals her moody temperament and that chat with her mother left her feeling she should self-medicate herself.
The FALLEN singer says, "I thought about taking antidepressants, but I think that takes your soul away." But Lee now realises her early angst was a reaction to the death of her three-year-old sister when she was six.
She adds, "I was getting a perspective that most people don’t get until they’re adults. I started writing dramatic poetry when I was 10 - it’s all about eternity and loneliness."

Rapper 50 CENT was arrested on Friday (08SEPT06) in New York City after making an unsafe lane change in his Lamborghini.
The IN DA CLUB singer, real name CURTIS JACKSON, was arrested at around 2.00 pm in Manhattan.
Law enforcement officials in an unmarked police car pulled the star over in his silver Lamborghini and then handcuffed him in front of several witnesses. Because of the crowd that began gathering around the scene, authorities determined it to be an unsafe situation and transported him to a police station down the street. Police officers issued four tickets - for making an unsafe lane change, driving with an expired licence, driving an unregistered vehicle and driving an uninsured vehicle.
According to New York Police Department spokesperson Detective MADELYNE GALINDO the rapper was not fingerprinted or photographed.
She says she believes an officer drove the Lamborghini to the police station.
The car was then relinquished to one of 50 Cent’s friends, who promptly arrived with the car’s registration and a valid driver’s licence. Galindo tells American publication People that the entire ordeal was over before 3 pm.
