SOUTH AFRICAN SAXOPHONIST KHUMALO DIES

Prominent South African saxophonist MOSES KHUMALO has died in a suspected suicide. He was 27.
Khumalo was found hanging from a rope in his home in Honeydew, South Africa on Monday (04SEP06), but no suicide note was found on the scene.
A statement from his record company Sheer Sound, reads, "The untimely death of Moses Khumalo, or ‘Moss’ as he was affectionately known to all of us, came as a huge shock." The jazz star first found fame in pianist MOSES MOLELEKWA’s band, but went solo in 2001 following Molelekwa’s suicide.
Khumalo’s debut solo album MNTUNGWA won him the Best Newcomer Awards at the 2003 SA Music Awards.
