Bob Dylan says he ‘owns’ the 60s.
Despite being hailed as a 60s icon, the legendary folk singer - who has just released his 31st studio album ‘Modern Times’ - insists he never really asked for his lauded tag.
He said: "Everybody makes a big deal about the 60s. The 60s, it’s like the Civil War days. But, I mean, you’re talking to a person who owns the 60s.
Did I ever want to acquire the 60s? No. But I own the 60s - who is going to argue with me?" Dylan has also revealed he never listens to his old songs.
The musician doesn’t revisit his backcatalogue because he can’t see the point of looking back.
He told America’s Rolling Stone magazine: "I don’t listen to any of my old records. When you’re inside of it, all you’re listening to is a replica.
"I don’t know why somebody would look at the movies they make." Dylan claims he often copies other musicians’ covers of his own songs - because he thinks they are better than his original versions.
He said: "Strangely enough, sometimes we’ll hear a cover of a song and figure we can do it just as well. If somebody else thought so highly of it, why don’t I? Some of these arrangements I just take."
