ESTEVEZ FOUND INSPIRATION FOR BOBBY IN REMOTE HOTEL
Fate intervened to help EMILIO ESTEVEZ complete his BOBBY KENNEDY biopic - when he escaped Los Angeles in a bid to conquer a paralysing bout of writer’s block.
The actor/director put down his BOBBY script for a year after writing 30 pages, because he didn’t know where to take it.
But after brother CHARLIE SHEEN read the script and urged the BREAKFAST CLUB star to press on with his biopic plans, Estevez took a road trip up the California coast to find a remote hotel where he could focus.
It was there, in the seaside town of Pismo Beach, that Estevez found magic.
He explains, "There’s a woman working behind the desk there, she’s probably (in her) mid-50s. She recognises me, she comes out and she gives me a hug and she says, ‘What the heck are you doing in Pismo Beach?’ "I said, ‘I’m writing a script, it’s about the day Bobby Kennedy was shot.’ She almost fainted and she said, ‘I was there.’ "She said, ‘For my generation, it was like someone pulled the rug out from under us.’"
