GREER: ‘IRWIN’S DEATH WAS ANIMAL WORLD’S REVENGE’
Feminist icon GERMAINE GREER has sensationally blasted naturalist STEVE IRWIN’s death an apt "revenge" by the animal world.
Irwin died yesterday (04SEP06) after being stung in the chest by a stingray while diving on the Great Barrier Reef.
However, the Australian author has little sympathy for his untimely demise, insisting the CROCODILE HUNTER star’s cruelty to animals deserved a violent retribution.
In a furious essay in British newspaper The Guardian, Greer also dismisses his impact as a conservationist, insisting his TV shows and zoo displays only taught children to "manhandle" animals.
Greer fumes, "There was not an animal he was not prepared to manhandle. Every creature he brandished at the camera was in distress.
"Every snake badgered by Irwin was at a huge disadvantage, with only a single possible reaction to its terrifying situation, which was to strike.
"The animal world has finally taken its revenge on Irwin."

Ms. Greer, your hateful comments towards the death of Steve Irwin were not only cruel towards his family and to all who loved him, but truely reflect your ignorance in animal husbandry and human kindness. I can’t hope that turnaround plays you a visit soon or I would be no different than the monster you are. My suggestion to you would be to find another profession because as a journalist you are the worse kind.

He did more for the world than this lady could even dream about doing. All she’s good for is sitting around and talking shit about good people. I honestly dont know how she sleeps at night. She’s a pathetic low life.

I was disgusted to read Germaine Greer’s comments. Ms. Greer, you should have kept your inane observations to yourself. Two children have just lost their father and there you are sticking in your two bitter little cents. Your comments show what a pathtic piece of s**t you are. You wrote one book, about 30 years ago, Stevo has influenced a whole generation, and done so much good. You suck, hen.

Dear Ms Greer
Your Uneducated Opinion is sad and only seems to be a ploy to become famous at the price of a families loss. Steve Irwin and his family have been saving wild animals and educating the public for years. I would like to see you catch and release a crocodile back to the wild with as much class and gentleness as Steve. I would also like you to research what the facts are before you make some idiotic statement like you did. The Femmenist movement does not need you putting a bad name on all Femmenist worldwide. You are a shame to anything you belong to. All Femminist around the world should dissown you and keep a more educated and understanding and intelligent argument alive. You sound as though you have lost a target to blame and Steve was a target for your stupidity.

It so sad that this woman is clouded by her own selfish ways. He wasnt a murderer, rapist, ect. He was great…and had a family. Think about them. No matter your opinion about someone and his/her career choice, you have no right or manners or heart to say such hurtful things. God takes everyone when he takes them, and it was his time to go…thats hard enough for his family and friends and the millions of people around the world who loved his work…to say things like that is just…satanic and mean. People like you, unfortunutly, say things like this to get attention, even if its negitive. Too bad. I feel sorry for you and your salvation.

GERMAINE GREER, is obviously one of those attention grabbing mongers trying to strike gold off of someone elses unfortunate event. What a B@!#!tch. I wonder if she has ever handled an angry Croc. Looks to me like you would use kid gloves when handling a large man eating reptile. Of course you stupid women your going to man handle some of these beasts. I love animals, and I love Steve! I think he did a wonderful job and was one of the first responsible to open the eyes of the world to the mysteries of the animal kingdom! Especially the Crocs and other reptiles. My son cried for a full 10 mintues after hearing of Steve’s death. This lady can go F4@! herself.

I wanted Steve to know that he was my hero, i watched all of his crocodile hunter programs, and that i wanted to meet him. i live in scotland in a place called Insch, Aberdeenshire. If i had the chance to carry on his work and expeareance i would do so but i am only thirteen years old, i know that it was a shock to the world, his family reletives and friends and even me. When i heard abut the news i was in tears, that someone important to everyone and myself has gone. But the most important thing about Steve is that he left an important message CROCS RULE AND TO NEVER TRY THE STUNTS AT HOME! Steave i shall never forget you.

Ms. Greer words cannot express how completely stupid you are for saying those things to a wonderful guy like steve. I dont understand if your just insecure or if your brain is just fucked up. but at least have the descency to keep your issues to your freaking self first along with the cockroaches your living with and let Mr. irwin have his peace. Ms. Greer should absolutely be ashamed of herself. Just because she doesn’t like to be, shall we say, handled by men doesn’t mean snakes or other animals feel the same way. After all, the dangerous snakes that he handled never really hurt him. Actually, it appeared they liked him as much as most of us did. Screw Germaine Greer - we loved you Steve and I want to thank you for all your efforts. ” Only the good die young”

Germaine Greer does not have a very sympathetic heart to be saying such cruel words about Steve Irwin! She needs to go sit down somewhere out sight of the public and shut up! I have greatly admired Steve Irwin and have watched all of his shows on the Discovery Channel and I was greatful for him taking up the cause and protecting helpless animals. Animals doe not know about revenge and Steve never hurt an animal in his life - he was the most gentlest man I’ve seen on TV.
Germaine greer - get a life! Steve rocks and will rocks forever!

What a disgusting woman to take such smug pleasure in the death of another human being. She seems to forget that Steve Irwin was a husband, father, and friend. He was also a compassionate consevationalist who brought attention to the cause. Yes, he was unconventional, but would we have had him any other way? Rest in peace Steve.
Comment by Shannon — September 5, 2006 @ 10:31 pm
Greer’s total lack of compassion and head up her butt comment should shut her down. Children did not learn about manhandling animals from Steve Irwin. They learned that animals have a place on this earth and were not to be put in jars and cages for entertainment. Irwin taught all humans who watched him, not to kill an animal just because they do not understand its place here on earth, but to respect it and its territory. Greer gives our children nightmares that animals and people cannot live together and that mother-nature is going to destroy us all if we do not change our evil ways. Greer, where does your urine and feces stack up? Does it pollute our oceans, seas, rivers, and streams? Does it stress our fish? I pray that Steve’s family will continue to teach children how to respect all living creatures on this earth. I also pray that Steve’s family will never know about Greer’s ignorance, hate, and lack of compassion for a son, father, husband, and human being passing from this life. Steve touched so many people with love, compassion, respect, and excitement for life. He will truly be missed.

This is regarding Germain Greers attack on Steve Irwin, I can be contacted on +971 50 5537125.
Your comments are not only untimely but also totally inaccurate and very hurtful to Terri and the kids, I am the father of a young lady with Williams Syndrome her name is “Sarah”, who went to Australia Zoo last year.
Originating from Jersey in the Channel Islands,UK. We have been fortunate enough to have the JERSEY ZOO created by another amazing conservationist Gerrald Durral, which helped to foster Sarah’s interest in animals and there preservation, Sarah has grown up watching Steve on TV, and our visit to Australia Zoo was the highlight of our trip to OZ.
Unfortunatly we missed Steve and his family by a few mins, but when our good friend BRAZAKKA found out,he phoned Steve and we received a beautiful signed photo saying “To Sarah, I love the fact that we share a passion for animals, call me on your next visit and I will ensure that we spend the entire day togeather with the animals, all my love Steve Irwin”. He also sent Sarah his entire collection of DVD’s and phoned her 1 week after we returned to Dubai ( where we have lived for the past 6 years), to say how sorry he was that he misssed seeing her, and was looking forward to meeting her on our next trip.
NO ONE in the media pays this attention, to a young budding Animal lover like Sarah, and Steve was and is her HERO, She has been crying for two days now, and both my wife and myself have been unsuccessful in telling her anything, to make her feel better, she cannot accept that Steve the Croc Hunter is no more, and to be honest neither can we.
To Terri, Bindi and Bob we cannot start to understand or feel the pain you must be going through, but our hearts are with you, and we know that your family will carry on the important and impressive work that Steve and his father started.
To Bindi and Bob, your father was, and still is “THE CROC HUNTER” and the ultimate “WILDLIFE WARRIOR”, and you will be too,if you feel proud of Dad, you should be, because he has done more to raise the awareness of animal conservation World-Wide than everyone else put togeather.
A prouder Australian or Father, would be impossible to find (your dad has set the bar, it’s up to you to top it)
To Germain Greer, I would like to use a local UAE saying to describe the utter contempt that I feel toward’s you.
“May you and your mothers womb dry up, and may the fleas of a thousand camels, drive you over the hills of damnation, to burn for all eternity in the fires of hell”.
Who the hell do you think you are to leave comments like that on the internet (which will remain there forever) for Bindi and Bob to read about there father,as they grow up.
I am furious, that you would use a Hero’s death too “showboat” your feelings, what the hell have you done, that remotly compares with Steve’s efforts, to even be asked your opinion, by some low life-rag is a disgrace to the journalistic profession.
Germain, I am not even religious, but I wish you nothing but pain.
To Terri,bindi and Bob.
Live with the Passion your Genes demand.
Your Dad was a bloody Eco God.
All our Love

P.S. I urge everyone to boycot Germain Greers trash, for all eternity.

I am writing in to comment on this Greer person blast about animal revenge on Steve Irwin’s death.Did she actually watch his documentaries?Does she know why he catches them?He actually studies their behaviour and their natural sense of survival. If that would mean violence and just for publisity rather than conservation, then she is the one baiting publisity by brutaly claiming such a thing. The world mourns him,the least that you can do is shut up and not to hurt his family. Why can we just leave his death as something of a accident and console his family and not attack the remaining family members with this kind of comments.I am sure that his children will be great leaders inthe arena of conserving the wild life. For God sake,he donates half of his wealth to the wild life conservation.Peace to Steve Corwin!

I remeber the first Croc Hunter I ever watched, it was about the ten most venonius snakes. There is Steve, in the middle of the outback laying next to a crack in the ground letting one of these most deadly snakes crawl into his shirt, did he touch it, no. He let this snake crawl into and out of his shirt, and never even cringed.
If you manhandle snakes and hurt them, they will bite you, it didnt bite him.
My daughter loves snakes because of Steve, she wants to be a herpitoligist because of him. He taught her to respect and care for animals that most people go out of thier way to kill.
Ms Germaine, you will never give the gift on a dream to some little girl or boy. You will die out and Steve will live on forever.
Goodbye

I am very sorry that a person labelled as feminist can be so insensitive. People can have different opinions, but bashing a dead man whose family are still mourning, not to mention millions other people around the world, is simply outrageous. I am not even Australian but I grew to love him through watching his shows. I called my family at home about his death and they were all devastated. How could she deny that people are still shocked, and sad and devastated?

It is all so bloody sad!!! Steve Irwin was a true Australian legend and to have some ignorant human such as “Germ” Greer slander his name in a time of such grief - is inhumane. No wonder there is so much hate in this world. Probably the saddest part of all this is she calls herself Australian. Rot in hell Germaine!!!
Comment by Melissa — September 7, 2006 @ 3:58 am
Your sick, you know that? This is a man whos passion was for animals. I mean, his catch phrase was “What a beut!. Not oh my god wat a freak of nature. He never killed any animals either. What sickens me more though is that your glad he’s dead when his oldest kid is two. Put youself in that position, if you had a husband who died what do you tell his two year old daughter? I can’t believe you would even say something like this.
Comment by Craig — September 7, 2006 @ 4:39 am
I can’t wait for those who Greer has put in misery to take their revenge. There shall be no state funeral for a cynical hate filled relic of the past who thrives on her overnight success from the 70’s. How horrible must this truly inspiring man be to buy millions of hectares of land to protect species, or to setup up breeding programs for endangered animals. The world will mourn for a long time for Mr Irwin, they will cherish the day you pass on Germaine
Comment by Andrew — September 7, 2006 @ 5:35 am
I see that Ms. Greer is not only still a bitter, dried up, irrelevant old crone — she’s also a miserable coward. Taking cheap shots at someone who has just died for ANY reason, let alone the promotion of her stupid extremist agenda, is about as desperately opportunistic as you can get. Steve Irwin never harmed an animal in his life. Germaine Greer, on the other hand, has harmed millions of women and men with her hateful rhetoric.
Ms. Greer’s “contribution” to the world: Three generations of angry, unhappy, miserable, but oh-so-”conscious” female victicrats, three generations of confused and bewildered men, and millions of abandoned children whose mothers pawned them off to others to raise because it was more important to go out to pursue political and economic “equality”. Nice job.
Steve Irwin’s contribution to the world: Worldwide appreciation and respect for wildlife, awareness of conservation, awareness of the need to clean up the environment, thousands of acres of undisturbed preserve land in Australia, and boundless joy for millions of people all over the world.
Based on what I’m reading on the internet, I know I’m not alone in the sentiment that Germaine Greer can rot in hell.
Comment by Donna B — September 7, 2006 @ 6:10 am
Unusually, I’m on Greer’s side on this one. Irwin was a boofhead (an Australian expression) who died doing something stupid. Saying “Crikey” and wrestling with crocs does not make anyone a hero. I can’t believe how all over the world, people are calling him a saint (even in Australia, where his programs were hardly ever shown - but then he was a famous Aussie, and Aussies are desperate for any international attention they can get). A state funeral for this guy? How about state funerals for nurses, charity workers and witnesses against organised crime?
Comment by noiseghost — September 7, 2006 @ 6:54 am
Hahaha
Good on you Germaine for saying what everyone was thinking. There was nothing that Irwin would not do for a bit of publicity (remember the dangling baby? Hmm, how soon we forget?). As for the rest of this cretinous country (Australia) - that so hypocritically mourns his death - well, get the hang of democracy and accept that Greer has as much right to air her views as you do. For those who say “shut up” to her, just because you dont agree with her does not mean she is not entitled to express her views.
And as for the rest of Australia who suddenly mourns the death of this pinhead, well how lame are you? Absolutely most Australians thought he was the epitome of wanker until 3 days ago. Oh, maybe it is because he was so loved by the Americans that Australia in its eternal sycophantic groping has suddenly turned around and lamented the loss of a monumental turd.
Jam
PS Americans - you might think Australians are like Irwin, but in fact theyre not. They are small-minded, selfish, ill-educated yobs hell bent on trying to prove themselves to the word - hang on, they ARE like Irwin. Well, except for the khaki.
Comment by jam — September 7, 2006 @ 2:58 pm
First of all we would like to offer our sympathies to Steve Irwins family. He was a great conservationalist and animal lover. He educated many people about animals in their natural habitat. I agree that i wouldnt call him a hero, but he was a brave man who captured the world by doing the thing that he loved best. We love him and he will be missed.
As for germaine it is obvious that she has never met him, went to his zoo, or even watched his television programs. We have been watching his show since we were little and have come to love him. Miss G. got exactly what she wanted because now the whole world knows her name, but Im sure its not quite the fame she wanted. Id be careful if i were her.
PS JAM- Your idiotic comments and oppinions about two different countries Is small minded, selfish, ill-educated and just plain dumb. ASSHOLE! How dare you think that we are anything like you. Excuse us americans who loved being educated about animals and Austrailia (a very beautiful place). And how dare you express your oppion as if Austrailia shared your same sentiment.
The world may have not lost a hero, but the Animals did!!!!

Germaine Greer is full of cra* I was surprised to see that there are people with their heads that far up their @$$ to be as low as her.
She obviously knows nothing about Steve Irwin and what he has done for the wildlife and for everyone around the world.
He has never hurt an animal, he’s done so much for them. He’s done so many great things.
He’s not only a loss for the animal world but for mankind as well.
Terri, Bindi, Bob, family, and friends of Steve Irwin. He was a great man, a real hero. Who is deeply missed by the animal world and by mankind.
Myself as well as others I’m sure, send you all hugs, love, strength, and prayers to help you with what you are all going through now.
I hope Bindi and Bob will take Steve’s and Terri’s mission to that next step (as he has mentioned), and hopefully people around the world will help them to take that mission a step further and on.
To Steve, your mission will live on. You will live on in our hearts, in our minds, and in our souls.

This man was so much more than just a TV laryican — he funded & set up organisations around the world with his own money to save & protect endangered species & conservation projects. The untimely passing of Steve Irwin is a great tragedy. This has effected my family more than I could have imagined; he has been a great influence on myself and my two boys. The world will never be the same. In the past, I have dealt with this type of emotional pain through music. Being a song writer and composer, I have written musical compositions and songs to honour friends, family, and fallen heroes to ease the pain and commemorate the contributions they’ve made in life. Steve falls under the obvious catagory of “HERO.” Please accept and share with the world this musical tribute in honour of the great “CROCODILE HUNTER” Steve Irwin.. WE LOVE YOU STEVE!!
