INVINCIBLE STAYS ON TOP OF US HOLIDAY BOX OFFICE
Feel-good American football film INVINCIBLE remained invincible at the US box office and claimed the top spot for the second week running taking in $15.2 million (£8.4 million) over the US Labor Day long weekend (02-04SEP06).
JASON STATHAM’s film CRANK, about a hitman out for revenge while racing to find an antidote after he is poisoned, opened in second place, taking in $13 million (£7 million).
A remake of the 1973 thriller WICKER MAN, starring NICOLAS CAGE, debuted in third place with $11.7 million (£6.5 million).
Independent road-trip comedy LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE continued to perform strongly with $9.4 million (£5.2 million) to land in fourth place.
THE ILLUSIONIST, starring EDWARD NORTON, PAUL GIAMATTI and JESSICA BIEL rounded out the top five with $8 million (£4.4 million).
The weekend’s other new wide release, the basketball story CROSSOVER, opened outside the top 10 with $4.5 million (£2.5 million).
