AGBAJE STRIKES OUT FOR BLACK BRITONS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 6:38 pm

LOST star ADEWALE AKINNUOYE-AGBAJE is so frustrated he is never cast as a Black Briton in American movies, he is making his own film to redress the balance.
The 39-year-old Londoner travelled to Hollywood because he was convinced there would be more work for him there.
But he finds the opportunities he has been given limiting, and he is taking positive action.
He says, "The only work I’ve done here has been in American films such as THE MUMMY RETURNS and I never play a Brit.
"I’m trying to change that by making my own film about black British people.
I’ve already got backing for it, so it’s an exciting time."

  • STATHAM’S DEBT TO RITCHIE

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 6:38 pm

Movie action man JASON STATHAM owes his entire movie career to GUY RITCHIE, who gave him his big break in movie LOCK STOCK & TWO SMOKING BARRELS.
Statham insists he would still be where Ritchie found him, a street seller, had Ritchie not taken a chance and cast him as a gangster in the British movie.
The actor - now a Hollywood big-hitter - says, "Without him I’d still be working jewellery and perfume on the streets. It’s not like I had further education or exams.
"He’s a complete inspiration. I love his movies and he’s got great taste. If I do need to ask him a question, he’ll give me his opinion and it’s always a very valued one."

  • MARGERA AND SIMPSON MAKE-UP

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 6:37 pm

JESSICA SIMPSON and JACKASS star BAM MARGERA finally settled their differences when they met up for a pre-MTV Video Music Awards on Wednesday (30AUG06).
Margera and Simpson famously fell out last year (05) when the skate star’s ex-girlfriend claimed on a radio show that he had had sex with Simpson - when she was married to NICK LACHEY.
Margera quickly denied the allegation, but he has not seen Simpson since, and was nervous when pals whisked him off to Simpson’s VMA Awards party.
He says, "Well, all the Jackass people were in the limo and we popped out of it and I asked someone where we were, they said ‘Jessica Simpson’s party’. I was like, ‘Great, this is going to be awkward,’ because I haven’t seen her since that whole mess. I was really nervous.
"I took 3 shots of Patron (tequila) and said to her, ‘Listen, I’m so sorry about what happened. I had a crazy ex-girlfriend.’ Jessica said, ‘It’s totally cool. I’m the sweetest girl you’ll ever meet.’ We talked for a few minutes then went our separate ways."

  • CHAN JOINS PETA TO STOP CHINESE DOG CULLS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 6:37 pm

Kung fu star JACKIE CHAN has joined forces with People For The Ethical Treatment Of Animals (PETA) in urging Chinese authorities to stop large-scale dog culls to combat rabies.
The SHANGHAI NOON actor has called on the Chinese government to use vaccines to tackle the deadly disease before outbreaks occur, rather than just reacting to emergencies.
Chan has designed a unique greeting card which is currently being auctioned on eBay, with proceeds going to PETA Asia Pacific’s humane rabies control campaign.
The card carries the inscription, "Of course it is our duty as human beings to love and respect each other. But that obligation extends to our animal friends as well. They are just as deserving of our care and kindness." PETA director JASON BAKER says, "With Jackie’s help, we hope to make dog culling a thing of the past. Humane rabies prevention programs not only save dogs lives, they also save human lives." More than 50,000 dogs were slaughtered in just one district of Yunnan province last month (AUG06), following the death of three people from rabies.

  • STONE ACCUSES HOLLYWOOD OF PROMOTING WAR

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 6:37 pm

Filmmaker OLIVER STONE has hit out at the US movie industry, accusing Hollywood of promoting war.
Stone claims movies PEARL HARBOR and BLACK HAWK DOWN "worshipped the machinery of war" and glamourised conflicts involving America.
Speaking at the Venice Film Festival - where his 9/11 movie WORLD TRADE CENTER is to be screened - Vietnam veteran Stone insists his movies PLATOON and BORN ON THE FOURTH OF JULY responsibly portrayed the realism of war, unlike other films.
He says, "Pearl Harbor and Black Hawk Down - these movies worshipped the machinery of war and I think America went back to the concept of war too easily.
"I have reasons to be depressed as a Vietnam veteran, and I can say many Vietnam veterans are depressed about why we are in Iraq." In contrast, he claims World Trade Center delivers a message of hope: "In the past I made very intense films, very powerful films about dark subjects.
"I did Vietnam at a time when America was very prosperous and there was no war.
"Now is a time to go the other way - that’s my nature - and I want to be positive.
"Things have gotten very dark and frankly there is more terror, there is more death, there is more war. The consequences of 9/11 are far worse than the day itself.
"Somebody asked if it was too soon for this movie - I think in many ways it’s too late. We have got to wake up."

  • GAINSBOURG SNUBS ENGLISH ROOTS

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 6:31 pm

CHARLOTTE GAINSBOURG is desperate to conceal her English heritage, because Brits make her feel "uncomfortable".
The daughter of English icon JANE BIRKIN and SERGE GAINSBOURG is far prouder of her French roots, and although Birkin encouraged her to enjoy British comedy - including much-loved 1970s duo MORECAMBE AND WISE - she simply didn’t relate.
She says, "The English was really my mother, it was never me.
"Because, being the daughter of my father, I always felt very French. I can see what my mother gave me, what she made me listen to or see - very English things, like Morecambe and Wise. But with the English I’m not really comfortable."

ICE-T survived gang culture by avoiding drugs and leaving his rough neighbourhood as soon as he could.
The COP KILLER star, once a member of ultra-violent Los Angeles street gang the Crips, escaped and forged a successful rap career before he succumbed to the evils of gang life.
He says, "Rule one is move out of the neighbourhood as soon as you can.
Trouble happens when you’re stuck in a particular area where gangs operate; separate from that and you’re okay.
"In terms of surviving when there’s some heat, I didn’t do drugs and didn’t drink so I always had a clear head. It was the messed-up guys on dope that took losses and hits."

  • CASSIE QUIT MODELLING WHEN TOLD SHE NEEDED TO LOSE WEIGHT

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 6:31 pm

Model-turned-R&B singer CASSIE quit her catwalk career after she was told to lose weight.
The 19-year-old ME & U hitmaker was furious when fashion bosses told her she needed to shift some weight, and decided to swap modelling for a career in music.
She says, "The funny thing about it was that towards the end of the modelling thing I was told that I needed to lose weight, and it really brought me down. I was just like: ‘Whatever, I’ve got bigger and better things to do.’ And the ironic thing is, since I stopped that and started the singing, I actually lost the weight just through being so busy."

  • EMI TO BLOCK BEATLES ACTION

Posted in: Entertainment — PR-inside Entertainment News @ 6:31 pm

LATEST: Record label EMI is preparing to appeal against a new ruling which allows former proteges THE BEATLES to sue it for over £10.5 million ($19 million) in alleged lost earnings.
EMI claimed yesterday (31AUG06) it is "likely" to attempt to block proceedings in the United States.
The band, including the estate of GEORGE HARRISON and JOHN LENNON’s widow YOKO ONO, was granted on Wednesday (30AUG06) the right to sue its former label in the US arm of litigation by a judge at the New York State Supreme Court.
The ABBEY ROAD stars intend, on top of attempting to win back their money, to claim a further £13 million ($24.5 million) in damages. They will also try to reclaim the rights to the master tapes of their catalogue. EMI has previously requested the case be thrown out, but its appeal was denied.
The battle between The Beatles and EMI has been raging since 1979, when the band and its company Apple Corp first accused the label of underpaying them. A settlement was reached in 1989, granting increased royalty rates, but a recent audit has revealed the deal was fraudulent. According to the band, EMI and Capitol falsely classified many copies of Beatles recordings as destroyed or damaged, before selling them in secret.
An EMI spokeswoman says, "Artists from time to time seek audits on their accounts.
"We are not unhappy with that and are happy to have full financial transparency. There are sometimes differences of opinion, especially when contracts are so complex and there may be issues of contractual interpretation.
In these situations the parties may resort to the courts or mediation."

Visitors to a South Korean sex show were left disappointed after erotic performances were cancelled because of immigration laws.
A number of foreign lingerie models were expected to perform steamy fashion shows and striptease acts at the 2006 Seoul Sex Education Expo, dubbed Sexpo.
However, immigration officials said the beauties were only travelling on tourist visas, and if they performed without having obtained a performance visa, they could be subject to deportation.
One disgruntled visitor said: "I came here for a show and all I have is this leaflet about sex tours. What’s going on?"

Thousands of prisoners have donated hair to help mop up the Philippines’ worst ever oil spill.
15,000 inmates at a southern Manila prison - including 1,000 on death row - have shaved their heads and chests to help clean up 50,000 gallons of industrial fuel that leaked from a tanker off the island of Guimaras.
The human hair will be mixed with chicken feathers and put in sacks tied to bamboo poles along the coastline to absorb the oil.
Inmate Bongbong Acoleds said: "It needs to be stopped and they said it could be stopped by hair." About 500 hair salons in the area have also joined the ‘Stop the Oil Spill’ drive, by donating hair clippings from their shops.
