FALK: ‘I LOVED PLAYING SHABBY COLUMBO’
Actor PETER FALK adored playing TV detective COLUMBO - because he could look as shabby as he liked.
Falk, 79, was thrilled when he realised he could skip the make-up department and simply turn up with a cigar.
He says, "I love that about Columbo. To be honest there was only one requirement for the make-up in Columbo - there was only one look, and the requirement was to look bad.
"So I’d be ready - it would take me about a minute and a half. I’d walk past the mirror on my way to the bathroom, look in the mirror and I was ready.
"I didn’t shave, I didn’t need a haircut and I didn’t want make-up on my face, so I didn’t."
